About 16G RAM

Post by satimis »

Hi folks,

I'm prepared building a new PC as virtual machine.

host OS - Linux 64bit
guest (VM) OS - Linux/Unix/Windows all 64bit
virtualizer - Orcle VirtualBox

PC config:-
AMD PHENOM II X6 HDT90ZFBGRBOX 1090T CPU

ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AMD 870,DDR3,USB3.0,SATA3 6Gb/s ATX M/B
http://techwiki.hardwarecanucks.com/pro ... USB3/#spec

RAM - 16G

WD Caviar Black 2002FAEX 2TB SATA3/64MB HDD

I haven't figured out RAM selection. Most makers such as A-DATA only offer 8G kit (4Gx2) except Corsair. Corsair has 16G kit (4Gx4) but quite expensive. Can I get 2 sets 8G kit to make up 16G? Or is there any other suggestion? TIA

Hi,

Thanks for your advice. I have been running 2 sets RAM kit and haven't got problem so far. Some folks said they may NOT pair which gave me a shock.

I'm targetting at A-DATA AD8GK21600G Over Clock XPG Gaming Series DDR-3 1600 8G Kit (4Gx2). Its price is quite interesting. AMD PHENOM II X6 HDT90ZFBGRBOX 1090T CPU [AM3] BOX [Black Edition] can run overclock. I suppose I can overclock the RAM speed to 2000MHz on BIOS. Any idea whether the aforesaid RAM match AMD CPU? TIA

if you need to do any cpu to memory mhz matching the MB Bios can do it. all you need to do is go into bios and manually set the speed there :)

Could you pls explain in more detail? If I want to upgrade "A-DATA AD8GK21600G Over Clock XPG Gaming Series DDR-3 1600 8G Kit (4Gx2)" to 2000G what shall I do? TIA

normally when you boot up you will see either the del eky or f2 key you will have to press to get into bios then you should see a few option and find the one that has the option you change the speed of your cpu and memory and you should be able manually adjust the speed of your memory providing you select manual setting. hope this helps. let me know! :)

If you install a different kit it should default to what the kit is already running... So if your system is running 1600MHz memory and you install 2000MHz memory later it should all be running at 1600MHz. You can use a program like CPU-Z to check clock speeds and timings without going into the BIOS.

you have to keep in mind AMD systems in general tend not to be stable with ANY memory above ~1800MHz- be it overclocked or not, never mind that much capacity (I don't like heavily clocking much more than 4GB total)
