Adjusting Memory Speed AND Timings from Windows

Post by stked »

Hi all,

I have a super old Compaq Deskpro EN, with a 933 MHz Pentium III CPU, 320 MB of RAM, and a Compaq 0684h mobo. The 320 MB's come in 3 sticks, 2 128MB PC133 modules, and an oddball 64MB PC125 stick. The mobo sets the RAM at 100 MHz by default, and uses some odd timings. Being a Compaq board, there are no advanced options to change this. I'd like to crank up the speed and modify the timings.

1. Can I flash the BIOS to add the necessary features?
2. Is there a Windows program that allows me to accomplish my goal?

I've tried using Memset before, but it could only change one timing, tRP.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

It's extremely unlikely you'll be able to do it.
First off, the 64MB stick is going to cause problems as unmatched pairs, even if dual channel is unavailable.
You can look for an older version of "setfsb" (You'll have to run as admin if running XP)
You'll have to try a few versions as it's old school whereby each version is specific to a bios type.
Be prepared for your PC to lockup over and over again as you test this.

If you do get it working, post some benchmark results.
