It would be very helpful to know what brand and model your laptop is.
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

that will tell you what you have, but probably DDR1 sodimm is what you want. If you have 2 256 meg chips, then you would need 2 512 meg chips of course. It only has 2 memory slots from what I can see.
can also go here

and that will tell you exactly - says the 333 or 266 will work in yours...use the link above first - the other is a program you have to install.
have fun
Mike
P.S. - isnt 512 enough in that laptop? must be doing a LOT for 1gb ;) I would just throw another 256 into it and be done. But thats me

I looked it up for ya and you definitely need DDR 266 (PC2100) as it appears to be the max speed. It also happens to have 200 pins. Also, it's definitely capable of 1 gb of ram.
Something with similar specs to this should do nicely.
