Updated L4D Server, but who cares?

Post by Apoptosis »

Guess no one is playing on the server as an update came out on March 12th and no one noticed the server wasn't updated...

I ran the update so the server can be connected to again, but it is obvious that no one is even trying to access it in a week I'm not sure I'll keep paying the monthly bill. It was worth a shot and I'd be happy to pay for servers for you guys, but no one is playing on it. I've offered to let any of our members admin the server and only got one person to help, so not sure what else to do. My next bill for this will is next month and unless people start playing on it i'm going to terminate the contract.

Actually the server has only been used 4 times in the past 30 days, so I see no point in paying for this out of my pocket.

I care :)..I get on and play but everytime I do, I never see anyone from here on Steam that much and playing alone isn't fun..Plus im sure the time zone differences play a small role..Hopefully we can keep this going guys..up to you tho of course Apop

If I have L4D I'd play. I mean, the forum members was the reason why Apop got a server for us was it not?

I play L4D, but I have been having problems for a while trying to connect to the server. I've only been able to get on it maybe 3 times since you bought it so I don't try that much anymore.

I've got it set so you can connect from the lobby now and have been looking into some advertisement plug-ins. I haven't had a whole lot of time to mess with it lately but I can easily turn it into a public server; though it won't be nearly as easy to connect to. I wish steam would hurry up and release the SDK so we can have reserved slots for members like every other steam game out there. Also I bet I could talk at least martini and dan into moderating the server, just haven't gotten round to asking your permission to hand out rcon passwords yet.

Anyone wanna give me L4D? Jks jks.

What's the cheapest way to get L4D, along with all the other good Steam games such as CS Source and Half Life? Or should I just get those Orange Box or w/e?

well i know steam has a package costing $99 US for pretty much all of what Valve made, including L4D..I bought L4D during their $25 weekend madness sale lol..a decent sized drawback to the $99 deal is that you have to download the games then..no cd/dvd that I know of

every time I tried to get in the server it was full... though that was a few weeks ago. last 2 weeks, I've had other things going on, and this week, tonight was the first time I've been on the computer all week.

Hopefully, I can get some work finished up this weekend and get back to gaming, at least a little bit, next week.

we already can do that with those mods i was telling you about!
reserved slots are built into source mod!
sourcemod also allows you to make admins without handing out rcon pasword, and give an admin menu

I've been getting in the server quite a bit lately and it would fill up shortly after me, but on two occassions the server timed out.

I've had a couple people offer to let me borrow their server and many thanks for the offers... If LR was to start doing servers I'd like them hosted on a backbone and funded by the site so they will always be there. It's not about the money to be honest... If our community wants to play a specific game I'd be more than happy to get a server and support our readers and/or gaming groups. I just don't want to pay for something when no one has used it in nearly a month!
