DFI am2 slowdown issues

Post by The Black Pumpkin »

Here's my problem. I just upgraded my mobo from the XFX am2 board to the DFI lanparty am2 board. Here's my current specs...

Athlon 64 X2 3800+
DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2x1GB DDR2 1000
8800 GTS 320MB
Corsair CMPSU-620HX
Seagate 320GB (Sata II) - x2
Samsung 200GB (IDE)

When I was installing Windows (XP), it took over SIX hours to complete. I turned it off and then rebooted it the next morning, took FIFTEEN minutes to boot to the XP desktop.

:-s

I made it go away at this point, by removing the limiter jumper on my Seagate drive (limits it to Sata I instead of Sata II). Ok, I figured problem solved.

Wrong! :|

Put everything in the case, hooked it all up. Bam! Same problem booting into Windows, although it only took five minutes this time.

So, is it just me, or is something seriously off? :-k

Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

are all the settings in the BIOS correct, because my new board defaults my CPU to 100MHz FSB instead of 166 (scary the first time i saw it because it was coincidentally the first time my pc ever booted after i bought it)

Well, after unplugging all the drives and resetting the cmos, it's gone, so no it's trial and error, changing one thing at a time, adding one thing, till I can find the problem again. :P

And the cpu settings are definitely correct, as the only thing I changed in the bios was the cpu multi, htt speed, and disabled cooln'quiet. 8)

I'll keep y'all posted.

sounds like either some sort of cpu limiting occured or limiting on the hard drive. Check the HDD to make sure its not dying. Also make sure that there is no downclocking occuring on the CPU.

I don't think anything's being limited, but it's possible, I suppose. I've gotta run some tests on the hard drive, like you said, but I don't think it's that, either. The reason being, everytime it happened it always went away with a cmos reset. Which really makes me think it was some option I changed that I should have. But I still don't know what it was! :|

P.S. When I install chipset drivers, it is best to go to Nvidia for them, right? Or should I get them from this board's section at DFI, since they've supposedly tested them out with the board for stability?
