After looking at the PCIE layout on that board I think quad PCIE video is like a dream (at least on that board), take a look at it.

Image

If you install a high end card in the first Blue slot you cover the first pci slot, Install the second card in the second blue slot you cover the 2nd black slot, leaving you one pci, and one pcie 16. Stick a sound card in the other pcie, then you got one pci open funs almost over.

I just wonder if this new quad video card idea is going to lead to bigger form factor MOBOS?

Maybe you can fit 4 cards on that board (if you put them on a diet lol), Maybe I'm missing something but after the first two cards, you drop to 16x/8x/8x, then with 4 cards you go 8x all the way. I don't think I'd shell a grand ($1000) for 4 16x cards to run them at 8x.

I must be missing something too because I also don't get it!

I've used this board for some time now and AMD Overdrive doesn't work right on it as ASUS doesn't have the right hooks in the BIOS... Also CrossFireX doesn't work with dual-slot cards as the slots aren't arranged right... You can do triple crossfire though... The MSI K9A2 is worth a look if CrossFireX is a possibility.

When the R680 comes out you'll get CrossFireX like performance with two dual-gpu based cards... should be interesting if it is priced right. I just got done playing UT3 on two R680's in CrossFire... I'll post pictures when I can I promise.

oh and the 770, 790X and 790FX chipsets will be released on the 19th, so stay tuned.

Appreciate the info, I was considering that board (in a minor fit of technolust), Been looking at a couple of 590 boards, but I'm probably going to wait for the new chip sets , since they support my current CPU it might be a wise investment planning on the new Phenom (though the 129 second benchmark I saw was rather disappointing)

Thanks Apoptosis
