I just had half a thought since the motherboard Hp used in the Pavilion a1737c is the asus board m2n-la a slightly modified version of m2n-mx could a person flash the bios to the asus m2n-mx current version without killing the mobo? (that's a am2 board with a x2 3800 on it, used to have a 4400 on it)
I'm thinking not probably kill the board/bios but I was wondering after all Locking BIOS should be a criminal offense.

hehe, here is the problem, it also use different eprom size, meaning the retail version is using 512k bios, the hp is 256k, it wont' flash at all, as for ur question, as for ur question...locking the bios is not a crime, b/c is their own interlitual properties, unless is open sourse which have to follow the GPL agreement, else mantufactor can lock almost everything as they want, as long as it works.
u can try to flash it, but make sure is same rom size first, i used to have compaq 1520 and was using MSI board, which is basicly a down size of MSI EXpress200 939 board, same board, 2 less sata, 1 phase less power regulator, however, i did manage to flash to retail version. but it die after i upgrade to opteron 185.
185 is 125watt and the miss power regulartor kills the board...

What happens if you send off for a replacement bois chip from asus, tell them its the m2n and see if it works when you get it.
