Is Motherboard Compatible?

Post by skyehawke »

Hello everyone, I hope I find you all well.

My name is Patrick, and I am new to this forum. I am not new to computers, having upgraded processors, memory, graphics & sound cards, etc. I have not, as yet, built a computer…Yet!

I am about to gut my AMD 64 4000 & Biostar MB from their “Ultra MicroFly ATX” case and start over. My intent is to build a decent, stable, multi-purpose PC, to be used as follows:

Living Room, 42in Panasonic HD plasma, games (primarily flight sims/air combat sims),
Music through my home surround system, probably HD/BluRay movies at some point, so want an HDMI and occasional wireless internet surfing.

Since my questions concern the mating of motherboard to Processors, I wasn’t sure which forum to post within, so I apologize if I am in err.

The following components are under consideration:

GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H AMD 780g Motherboard

And if compatible,

AMD: CPU's
Athlon 64 X2 6000
Phenom X3 8650
Phenom X4 9500

Windows XP Professional OS

At no time is this machine running multiple tasks or applications. It for example, is only used to game while gaming, only used for music when listening to music, etc.

Question 1: Is there a marked improvement in speed and stability in games with X3/X4 vs X2 6000?
Question 2: Minimum sized power supply?
Question 3: Memory suggestions?

Any advice or suggestions will be greedily devoured!! :drinkers:

Thank you in advance

Patrick
