Vid Issues with my M3A78-CM

I’ve had this mobo running successfully since March of this year with bios 1003, 7750 BE, and an EVGA 260GTX 216 pretty much folding 24/7.

Recently I upgraded to a PI X3 8750BE as I wanted to try SMP and GPU folding at the same time. Unfortunately the system’s PSU was pulled to use in another build with the decision to swap back to be made when the dead unit has been RMA’ed. This has left me having to use a PSU that wouldn’t power the 260 so I reverted back to onboard vid for testing and oc’ing.

Now to the problem……….

The analog video just doesn’t want to work with any of the monitors I have (Older 15” CRT & LG 19” LCD). However I could get it to work with the dell 24” with DVI that is I did for a while. The system was working okay until I elevated the OC to match the lower end of one I have with this proc in a Foxconn mobo. So no biggie, just pop the cmos jumper and away we go….or so I thought.

Now I have two states, either it’ll boot up the Asus flash screen and “hang”. If I hit TAB, Delete, or F8 it’ll go to a blank screen OR it boots up to a blank screen and you may see the “underscore” blink a few times in the upper left corner like it is getting ready to load then disappear.

Other than the cpu the only difference from before is I downloaded 9.10 drivers……which were giving 4870 1GB in another system fits while folding so I reverted back 9.8 without issues.

When I did the initial set up, testing, and oc’ing with the Kuma it was done using the onboard vid. After much frustration I discovered my problems were the 1003 bios for the Kuma and having to send the g. skill memory back to be correctly flashed to run with the combo.

CPU: AMD PI X3 8750BE
HSF: Zalman CNPS8700-NT
GPU: XFX GTX 260-216 Black Edition (removed)
MEMORY: F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK (2 x 1024)
HDD: WD Raptor X, 150 Gigs

For now I've by-passed this issue as I'm currently running a Sapphire 3870 from out of my "to sale" pile. Be setting up a thread shortly on the oc'ing side as this set up is just "weird"!

BTW still looking for suggestions on this on board videro issue.........

If anyone is interested in the final results...........ended up selling the mobo to a friend that wanted the original 7750 that was in it in the first place. Have bios 1003 which seems to be the only one that'll work with the 7750. Anyway it now seems I have onboard vid (at least at the analog side) and no GPU issues. Guess it was one of those things that make this game unique, need the right combo of things in order to get them to work together!
