Intel D975XBX2's Replacement DX38BT Motherboard

Post by Apoptosis »

Here is a picture of the upcoming Intel enthusiast board the Intel DX38BT motherboard. This board is one of the ONLY X38 boards that will allow three dual-slot PCIe cards to be installed at once. This board is available with DDR3 only from what I have been told thus far. This board is known as Bonetrail, so good-bye Bad Axe 2 and hello Bonetrail!

hehe skull and crossbones on the board.

With the size of the NB die, do people still think that its not a good idea to throw this in to watercooling loops?

Are you sure Intel can still cut a decent motherboard after the XBX2 fiasco?

I know there have been problems, as there have been with every motherboard ever created, but I wouldn't call XBX2 a "fiasco" by any means.

So, no PCI-express HBA/disk controllers working is OK for you? (Except possibly one, the Adaptec 3405)

I've usually been able to get past or work around every issue with any given motherboard of reasonably high quality, the XBX2 is the first time I've paid so much and had so many trouble, some unsurmountable.

Plus the support is a total disgrace for a product of this price and the type of chips it is for (QX6700, X6800).

Why defend the indefensible? Why not put heavy pressure on the vendor to make a decent working home for $1000 cpus?

To me, this is unacceptable. I've been building servers and workstations for some time now, and this is the worst showing from Intel support I've ever seen.I expect to get stonewalled from Asus and the like, but from Intel I've come to expect more.

They just seriously damaged their support reputation as far as I'm concerned.

If Intel has professional courteous responsive support and access to engineers via support we wouldn't have these issues. I'm sure the Intel engineers would like to fix this horrible BIOS, support is getting in the way, clearly.

For what we pay for these CPUs, MBs and Video cards, we have every right to complain when things don't got perfectly. People don't pay for problems, they pay for solutions.

So again, I maintain the XBX2 is a fiasco motherboard, and I've had less problems with other motherboards in the past.

I'm not familiar with that particular issue.

As for the rest of what you said, you obviously have some personal issue with Intel over your experience with this board. Don't take that wrong, I'm not criticizing. I would never buy another AMD cpu/chipset or another MSI board after my current experience, and for that matter, I will never buy an ATI product (guilt by association with AMD). Is that the best way to go about buying products? Maybe not, but I'll take personal experience over anything and everything else, anytime.

As for "fiasco", I don't think we're going to agree on that one. In any case, and in all sincerity, good luck with your XBX2 problems.

Looks nice overall except those capacitors left of the northbridge, they really make a 2007 board look 2001. And is it me or the NB is HUGE?
