D975XBX raid array issue

Post by scope »

I am having some trouble with creating a raid0 on my Intel motherboard.

Motherboard: D975XBX
Hard drives: 2 300GB velociraptor SATA in raid and 1 750GB running win XP pro

I plugged the HDDs in blue sockets and hit F4 to enter raid utility during start up. I created a raid0, started XP, downloaded RAID:Silicon Image 1.5.10.0 drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...+Board+D975XBX

The raid showed up as a 600GB drive and I formatted it to NTFS.

I have two issues:

1. I used datamarck to test the speed of the drives. A single velociraptor had an avg read of 130MBps out of array. In raid0, the speed dropped to 75MBps, which is less than my other normal 7500RPM drives. Don't know if it matters, but the raid shows up as SiImage - SCSI (558.9 GB) in datamarck.

I would hope the raid0 should be at least pushing at least 150MBps.

2. I don't have a floppy drive in my machine. I want to install win7 pro on this raid (when it works properly). However, it is not recognized by win7 installer. The only driver Intel's site shows for win7 32bit is http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=2205&lang=eng and win7 installer says they are all incompatible.

The troubleshooting guide for this motherboard suggested to make sure you can enter another raid utility using ctrl + I at the startup. This doesn't work for me. They so if you don't see a message to press ctrl + I, enter BIOS. Go to boot menu and then enable addon ROM display mode. However, I don't see this option in my boot menu. Not sure if this matters.

Anyone has any suggestions? Thanks.
