MCP73VT-PM need help to upgrade CPU...

Post by steven1976 »

:) :) Hi...I'm new here and I really need help.

I have my eMachines ET1641-02w with

Motherboard MCP73VT-PM and
Intel Celeron Duo Core E1400.
4Gb DDR2 Ram PC6400
Now I want to upgrade to Core 2 Duo E7500 or E8400. So anyone help me about that???

Thank you very much.... :) :)

Download HWinFO32 and post the results under the Motherboard drop down. Depending on the chipset your motherboard uses you might not be able to use a newer Core2Duo.

*EDIT*
Platform1
Intel® Core™2 Duo processor
Intel Pentium™ Dual Core processor
Intel Celeron™ Dual Core processor
Intel Celeron processor
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7050 chipset (MCP73V)
http://support.gateway.com/emachines/em ... 1sp2.shtml

So I'm assuming there it supports 1333 FSB CPUs. Now that I think it will work, what is your question? Is it how to install a CPU? If so when you buy a new CPU there are instructions included in the box with pictures.

Thank you very much Major_A. One more thing I wonder is both of CPUs ( E7500 & E8400) is 45nm, so I dont know if it work??? 'Cuz, mine right now 65nm.

Hope you let me know. Thank you :) :)

Good question. Worst case scenario you will have to buy a new motherboard for your new CPU. And you can get a fairly good mATX board for pretty cheap.
