Processor upgrade

Post by Zagreus »

Good evening and hello (first time on the site, be gentle). I have a Packard bell iMedia 2215 pc with a dual core Celeron cpu. The cpu is the Intel Celeron E1200 and i believe the upgrade is the Intel dual core E5500 (both have been retired by Intel). Here are the specs as it is on the PB site.

CPU Support
• Socket LF-LGA775
• Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium, and Celeron class processors
• Up to 1066 MHz Front Side Bus
Chipset
• NVIDIA GeForce 7050 with nForce 610i

What i need to know is, will the E5500 work with the Nvidia chipset. Relying on your expertise people. Thanks in advance. Regards.

it looks like it should work since it supports a 1066MHz FSB

can you find an actual model number for your motherboard?

(download CPUz run and go to the motherboard tab, screenshot of it is good too)

Hello Skier, thanks or the response. Motherboard model No MCP73VT-PM, Version PBDV10.P17, brand American Megatrends. I hope this makes sense.

I think the board is a Denver 10 and this is what it says about the ram.

System Memory
• 2x 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DIMM slots
• DDR2 533 / DDR2 677 / DDR2 800 DIMMs
• Supports up to 8 GB system memory RAM
• Single channel support

Hope this helps. Regards.

going to the board specs page doesnt say much aside from core2 and not being pentium, but looking at the 610i/7050 series chipset itself it appears that it should support wolfdale CPUs(45nm intel dualcores are wolfdale based), but you have to make sure you have the latest BIOS and i have no idea where you can even find that.

i can't say that it will definitely work, but it might, and if it doesn't i would just pick up a cheap board like the GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L i recently got for a Core2Quad system which is a great board for $53, or you can look through and find a board you like on newegg as they go down to $32 and i think all of them support Wolfdale/pentium dual core

but again, you can get the E5500 CPU and try it then make a decision on a new board if it doesnt work as a 2010 Dual core @2.8GHz is a solid chip for web browsing/office/general usage and can last a while if you're not gaming heavily

The second one looks the same except for a white connector which is in front of (i think the graphics slot), but my white connector is in between the PCI slots and the graphics slot. My board has four SATA connectors and blue EIDE connector. Hope this can put more clarification on the matter.
