Xeon E5620 vs i7 950 in X58SO
I got a refurbished X58SO for $90 on a one day deal and some triple channel cas 8 memory for $45. I was wondering which processor would be better overall performance a single Xeon E5620 (2.4Ghz 12MB L3) or a core i7 950 (3.06Ghz 8MB L3). Both are LGA 1366). I know I won't be using the QPI or the ECC support. I just want to know given they can be had close to the same price $300 (i7) and $350(xeon). I am leaning toward waiting for a while anyway as I'm getting sent to the UK for a while. I just wanted to know your thoughts. I will probably overclock later, but lets say stock. I figure the faster clock speed will help more with games and most every day needs probably even in solid modeling. Also it is cheaper by $50. I would love to see a head to head though. Where does cache size help more?

you would never see a difference between 8M and 12M, get the 750
