p8400 vs p6200

Post by o0jopak0o »

i am in the process of buying a new laptop. I like a laptop that can handle games and such so i choose not to buy atoms but not that expensive because i recently bought a desktop.

can anyone have opinion on these two processors. There is not that much information on the internet and one site claims p8400 is better and the other one the p6200

intel core2 dup p8400 2.26ghz 3mb l2 cache

intel p6200 3M Cache, 2.13 GHz

and lastly if i bought a low end to mid end i3 will this surpass the performance of the two? If it can then i might just add a few dollars for it.

between the two I would get whatever is cheaper as a system. core2's all handle general computer use and plenty more with ease, the only way to set them apart is to have heavy CPU usage like in benchmarks or encoding or gaming

just realized that the p6200 is a clarkdale-based CPU (the only 32nm CPUs that are out are clarkdale i3,i5) so it is essentially an i3, yes I would opt for the P6200 then.

an i3 would beat any Core2 at similar speeds (ie, if an i3 is at 1.8GHz it obviously wouldn't keep up with a 2.6GHz core2 though, but within .3GHz I'd opt for i3 or i5. also the i7 range is more like .5GHz below core2 depending on the model)
