samsung R519 laptop

Hi as the title states i have a samsung R519 laptop. i've just upgraded the cpu in it, to a intel pentiumn dual core T3400 2.16ghz. from a intel T3100 1.9ghz. What i was wondering was whats the highest cpu i can put in this laptop without it melting the laptop.

contact the maker of the laptop and see what that board can support, or you can go look at samsungs website and see if there is a list of supported CPU's also see if there is any bios updates that give you more CPU support

Hi ive just looked and phoned samsung fat lot of good they were. They said they could not give me that information as they dont have it. so does what cpu my laptop can handle without melting the motherboard.

We need to know the motherboard make and model as well as the chipset . I just looked at samsung website and they only list the one bios.

Hmm this is rather interesting, I cant a clear definite answer just I was able to grab this list here http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28 ... press.html. A lot of peeps just ended up trying different CPU's.

Here is a link to an ASUS laptop with the GL40 northbridge. It shows what CPUs that model supports. I would assume (could be wrong here) that the CPU support is tied to the northbridge and not that particular model.

it would be similar to our desktop models, but back then intel had several different chipset support several different types of CPU's all on the same CPU socket. now the only question remains is does the BIOS actually support a different CPU

The laptop socket 478 is only a few years old right? Seems like the Dell my sister bought before she left for college had a socket 478 T4100 in it.

First of all thanks for your help guys, I've found some other people that have got these cpus running on there laptops with the same specs as mine.

Intel Core2 Duo (3MB L2 cache) P8400, 2.26 GHz processor

Intel Core2 Duo (3MB L2 cache) P8600, 2.4 Ghz processor

Intel Core2 Duo (3MB L2 cache) P7350, 2.0 GHz processor

Intel Core2 Duo (6MB L2 cache) T9400, 2.53 GHz processor

mmmmm i wonder how hot these Intel Core2 Duo (6MB L2 cache) T9400, 2.53 GHz processor would run on my lap. ive got a feeling this is as high as it goes, which i would be really happy with. but i'll keep looking out for more just incase.

@ wayne np I hope you get it all figured out.

@ Major A, I believe it is a fairly new chipset by the number 40 strapped to it, So i would be pretty sure it should be able to handle any Core 2 type of CPU's as far as chipset is concerned. but did Samsung lock the BIOS only to handle that specific CPU or is it like many other BIOS and still support a wide range of CPU's. Again I haven't been keeping up with the laptop market myself, when I do get me one and it be time for "upgrade" of that laptop i just purchase a entirely new laptop this keeps the guessing game to a minimum.

Is there away i can find out if samsung have locked the bios. and if it is, is there away of unlocking it.

I doubt they locked it, the only way is to put in a CPU then turn it on. What I been reading that is what most are doing

Yep i dont think they have eather as like in my first post i upgraded from a intel T3100 1.9ghz. to a T3400 2.16ghz. and thats running great, no problems at all :)

I am gonna have to start doing some reading on lap top components to get a better understanding on the chipsets and what they support. as far as max the core 2 duo line supported ddr2 memory because of the memory controller was on the nb, if the chipset follows the same basic idea as desktop your CPU is a low line core 2 duo, so one can think that most or all core 2 duo CPU's would be supported.

now the battery life would be a entirely different story

The first Intel Processor line to feature an integrated memory controller was the Core i series. You are correct that Core2's did have the memory controller on the Northbridge (NB), but desktops could use either DDR2 or DDR3 as you could see a majority of currently-available LGA775 motherboards support DDR3 with a few boards even offering 2 DDR2 DIMMs and 2 DDR3 DIMMs. I've even ran a Pentium4 with DDR3 1600 Memory before. For laptops the same story goes, but by the time DDR3 standardized in laptops, it was because they were mostly using Athlon II X2's or the second generation Core i series so there was no need to ever run a core2 with DDR3 Memory in laptops, though even the chipset series of your motherboard supports DDR3

I myself have two laptops, one running a T2300 1.66GHz with DDR2 667 purchased in fall '06, and the other a T5750 2.0GHz with DDR2 667 purchased in fall '08

If you look over at wikipedia for the Socket P specifications, you see

Operating between 400MHz and 1066MHz bus speed and throttled if necessary to conserve power

above 2.17GHz all supported by Socket P:

* Same model # CPU is also available on socket M so you would have to check the specific CPU you are purchasing for Socket P support as Socket M CPUs do not function in Socket P

I am unsure of max supported TDP for CPUs for your specific board, you could likely find other processors via google shopping links or ebay or even craigslist
