2500k at 5.0 a bottleneck?

Post by hercules71185 »

Some games are starting to use hyperthreading. I know my rig is overkill. But do you think that my cpu shoukd be upgraded to eliminate the bottleneck of my cards. I have 3 radeon 7970s. Should I just wait for another platform or will an i7 2600k show a difference at 5.0?

Crysis 3 so far has been demonstrated to be the only game where both processor speed and thread count really matters. For everything else, the i5s provide enough or more than enough threads and almost all games are still far more GPU dependent than CPU dependent.

What resolution are you gaming at? At a certain resolution your CPU has little effect on the final FPS. This is why some people buy a cheaper AMD FX so they can spend more on video cards.
