ATI CrossFireX Preview - Triple CrossFire Benchmarking

ATI CrossFireX Preview - Triple CrossFire Benchmarking

We've had ATI CrossFireX running the past couple days here at Legit Reviews and while the drivers are not public yet, things are looking very good from what we have seen. We have slapped together a Radeon HD 3870 X2 with a Radeon HD 3870, which in turn creates a Triple CrossFireX platform with just two x16 PCI Express slots. Read on to see what CrossFireX is all about!

Image
In March, ATI will be releasing CATALYST 8.3 drivers, which now offer support for CrossFireX in both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 applications. For now only the Radeon HD 3800 series of video cards will support 3-way or 4-way CrossFire in compatible PCs. ATI has stated in the open that performance still has a ways to go and that over the next few months performance is only going to get better. The driver team at ATI is cranking away on CrossFireX and as you will see in this article they are off to a great start.

Woah, 2 triple card reviews in one day?

Man you guys are magic

I look forward to the face off of both SLI and XFireX when you have both sets of cards under one roof (presuming that will be the full XfireX review).

I just got an e-mail back from NVIDIA and they said this:
Just wanted to inform you that Skulltrail motherboards use two NVIDIA nForce 100 SLI MCPs. The nForce 100 SLI chip allows a maximum of two GeForce graphics cards to work together, enabling SLI between two GeForce GPUs such as the GeForce 8800 GTX, and enables Quad SLI on dual-GPU graphics boards such as the GeForce 7950 GX2.

The nForce 100 SLI MCP will NOT support 3-way SLI. This cannot change even with a driver/bios update.
Dual and Quad-SLI are options, but triple is out of the question. It's a chipset limitation more than anything since two nForce 100 SLI chips are being used. Quad 9800 GX2 versus Quad 3870 X2 will be an option on this board though.

Do you guys ever sleep? Absolutely amazing! I think my money will be well spent when I get time this summer to build a new system. I love the direction ATI/AMD is going with these.

whats the point of having two of them? if you set up two seperate and independent sli solutions and/or 4 independent gfx cards would you see a performance boost?

from what i hear, ATI (and possibly nvidia also) has NO support for 8 GPU usage, they are limiting at 4(3870X2s only have one crossfire bridge) so crossfireX will be the limit for some time to come(i dont know about nvidia's side though, but i would imagine they are taking the same route)

I have a question, if someone could clear me out.
If that test was run with a 650w psu, then would be a 750w power suplly be enough for a crossfire with 2 hd3870x2 with one of those new quad core processors?

I'll let you know beause I plan on using the Corsair HX620W to test that one also. If not I'll hook up the bigger PSU's, but I like to get away with the smaller ones if possible. Too many people out there have massive PSU's that aren't needed.

Marcus,

Welcome to the forums, but I removed your link...

1) it smells like spam and has nothing to do with this thread
2) I've never heard of that retailer
3) you linked to a store selling a board that is off topic on your first post.

If you are a spammer please move on, but if you are not my apologies.
