A couple weeks ago when the ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card came out the card proved itself to be a price versus performance winner, but we couldn't ignore the high temperatures that it ran at. Our temperature testing showed that the Radeon HD 4850 ran at 85C at load, which was within specifications, but is too hot for us to ignore. We install a Coolink GFXChilla on a Radeon HD 4850 with the hopes of reducing temperatures and you'll be shocked to see the results!

The test results show that the Coolink GPUChilla dropped the idle temperatures by 49% and the load temperatures by an impressive 45%! Our only complaint on the Radeon HD 4850 was how hot the card ran and the Coolink GPUChilla took cooling to the next level. The 49% reduction at idle put the Radeon HD 4850 at 33C, which is better than we expected. The factory heat sink works, but it obviously leaves room for improvement...

It's been proven to work well, so why waste time and effort completely rethinking it (kind of like why redesign the wheel)

I really take issue with the use of %reduced in your commentary when talking about temperature reductions. Theres a long thermodynamics explanation, but put simply, 0 on the Celcius scale is relatively arbitrary. If you calculate your %reduced in Fahrenheit the numbers are different! You should not talk about % reduced with temeratures.

whats wrong with 85C at load, my x850XT runs at steady 90C when gaming, and only when it breaks 90 is when the fan goes above 5%

I guess its the whole the higher the temp the shorter the life motto. To me 80+c is just too high I would have to do something to get the temp down.

yeah, but its fan is autoset to keep it at 90 so i'm not too worried, it runs mid 50s during average use though
