Have you checked your CPU temps with CoreTemp? If it were me I would let the thermal compound cure for a week or two just to make sure that your build is stable at set clock speed. Run some programs that stress your chip before you overclock. Better to be safe than sorry.

Perhaps, if your first concern is the life of the processor, overclocking might not be for you.halbrooks32 wrote:i have a AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz quad core CPU and a ASUS M3A78 Pro AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard and i want to OC my CPU to 3.0 or higher but i dont want it to be unstable so something higher than 2.5 but not too much , new CPU don't want to burn it up

Re: i need HELP!!
This site has done a great review of the 780G MOBOs not too long ago. You may be able to mildly OC that CPU without shorting it's life. I wouldn't push for 3.0Ghz. Your CPUs sweet spot for OCing in a safe range would be more like 2.6Ghz to 2.7Ghz.
You need a great thermal cooler on your CPU to really hit what you desire that CPU to crank out.

Re: i need HELP!!
My friends got the 9850 on his biostar 790GX chipset and just put up the multiplier to 15 and it's running fine at 3 Ghz, with just a little extra voltage, which depends on whether you have the 90 w or 125 w edition.

Funny thing about the life of the CPU.
Every PC I've owned that has been overclocked has never burned out a CPU.
Ever PC that has been stock. EVERY ONE OF THEM. Has burnt out their CPU.
(yes I'm knocking on wood) lol
