Ok so I need to know if the phenom 9950 is compatible with the Asus Crosshair.
If it is I'd like to know what kinda of performance boost if any i can expect from swaping out my x2 6400+ with the 9950.
If it isn't I'd like to know the same question about the 9850.
Also what would be the best bet Graphics upgrade from an 8800GTS in the crosshair I rally don't want to spend more than say $250.
I use this rig for gaming and i have a 37" monitor that I'd like to run games like crysis & Far cry 2 @1920x1080 maxed if possible is this possible with my current set up:
Crosshair
x2 6400+ (Or what ever I upgrade to)
4GB Corsair XMS2 6400
8800GTS 320 (Or what ever I upgrade to)
BTW I have gone to both asus & amd's respective sites to see if this mobo is on the compatability list and on Asus it says yes but on the recommended MOBO sheet from AMD it stops @ the Phenom 9850, does n e one else have this mobo that can confirm or deny either?
And then there's the black edition which is 140w vs. 125w I'd like to use the Black edition but IDK if i can.
Thanks in advance! ;)

Re: 9950 vs. x2 6400+
Your board supports the 9950 125Watt version but not the 140Watts.
In Far Cry 2 you'll have a Performance increase over the 6400 X2 but it is playable on Very High with the 6400 X2 as well.
For the Very High to maxed settings at your desired resolution a 4870 1GB ($229 after rebate) would do it. For Far Cry 2 I'd recommend a card with more than 512 MB of memory.

Hey, thanks for the response! I wanted to ask...ratNukit wrote:Your board supports the 9950 125Watt version but not the 140Watts.

Will the preformance boost be substancial going from my 8800GTS 320MB to this --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 814102795R
I'd like to beable to play everything at 1920x1080
My stock score on 3Dmark06 with default settings is 9464
Overclocking with Riva tuner yeilded a max score of 10.7K which I think is pretty darn good considering. My settings were, COre@575, shader@1700, memory @1050
I dumb it down to the settings I used to get 10.5k just to be safe.
In any case what brand of the 4870 do u recommend? Saffire , asus, xfx, etc...?
I was always able to play Deadspace maxed out without issue even when my card was scoring 6200 in 3DMark06. But since I updated my Mobo bios, I've been able to play crysis everything on High @1920x1080
Thankx in advance.

Re: 9950 vs. x2 6400+
Yes, you'll see a good jump in performance going from the 8800GTS 320MB to the 4870 1GB at 1920x1080.
Any of those brands you mentioned are good. XFX is my personal favourite, but i'd check out prices and the relevant warranties if you want the best deal.

I've always had a SAPPHIRE card up till now and never had any problems, but the brands you mentioned will do as well.
