Axentra HipServ 2.0/Marvell Sheeva Plug - Plug Computing

Energy efficient computers have become the latest rave. Axentra has taken this idea to the next level with their HipServ Plug computer. The size of a laptop charger, the HipServ Plug acts as a NAS, HTTP server, and computer backup system all while consuming 5 watts.

Besides being a web server and UPnP media server, the HipServ Plug also sports a slick backup software suite. For this you must install the appropriately named HipServDesktopApplication. Once the application is installed, fire it up, and it'll search the network for a HipServ. Upon finding one it'll ask you for login credentials and then let you setup a backup sequence. I've been doing daily backups of my review photo archive and it has been working like a charm...

This looks really cool!

If they cant put the laptop hard drive inside, they should have a bracket that could hold one on the case!!

Is this easy to get to work with XP, Vista, 98se? and all at the same time.

Can you use it to backup multiple computers?

Mike

Would be nice to be able to install a sd card or even a compactflash card inside and then use an external usb drive for even more storage!!
Remember, I am opinionated and nothing I say or do reflects on anyone or anything else but me :finga:

It looks like the proprietary file system might be the only thing holding this thing back. I'd like to be able to unplug devices from the Sheeva and access file on using another computer if I wanted to.

I used it on Vista and XP, works fine with both. This version has a SD card slot but it does nothing, I think it is made for debugging? Once the software works to format large disks this thing will rock.

Only a minor flaw, but it would be nice to be able to do that.
