OCZ Vertex EX SSD Update Guide To Firmware v1.20

On Monday, when we published our OCZ Vertex EX 120GB SLC solid state drive (SSD) review things started out great, but by the end our testing had clearly degraded the performance of the drive. Read on as we upgrade the firmware from version 1.11 to 1.20 and run wiper.exe to restore performance on the Vertex EX.

Until they figure out how to never degrade performance I will not buy a SSD. What is the point of having a super fast drive that costs 5X the price of a mechanical drive if the performance eventually becomes that of a 5400RPM 2MB cache ATA 66 drive?

Doing a bunch of benchmarking prematurely wears and dirties the drive. You wouldn't see this during normal usage for quite a while and by that time, TRIM will be available.

Yeah, but no one can prove that without doing benchmarks, so it's a catch 22...

From what I have been told yes.... but no SSD manufacturer has included the feature since the code isn't 100% done and still could be changed. Which actually makes since as it could brick the drives.
