Want To Run ATI Eyefinity? You need a Display Port Panel

Post by Apoptosis »

As many of you have already seen ATI Eyefinity technology is pretty slick, but you need a Display Port Panel in order to run it without needing some very expensive adapter cables. Numerous Display Port Panels ARE available, and they are more affordable than people think... Take a look

Here are the links for the monitors and if I missed any please feel free to post them up!

maybe i'll convince people at work to get all these dispaly port monitors with each purchase ;) then when we have six i'll steal them to my office and get them to get me a gfx or 4 and I"ll put them together on my cube wall. SO then when they all come looking for their monitors I can be like snit' my 9000x7000 solidworks model awesome? haha but yes much more affordable than I thought they would be. Nice Review of the Card also.

Haha, good idea. But the 5870 will be able to handle on so many monitors running Crysis on very high detail. :)

The adaptors aren't terribly expensive....$30.....http://www.startech.com/item/DP2DVI-Dis ... apter.aspx

I think it would be worthwhile for me to buy two additional 4:3 20" panels to match my current Samsung, and buy one adaptor.

True, but like the page itself states: "This adapter supports display resolutions of up to 1920x1200", so can't be used on 30" for full 2560x1600 as you need a Dual Link capable adapter.
For that you'll need an "Accell UltraAV B087B-002B DisplayPort/DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ISVI3U
That adapter supports computer resolutions up to 2560x1600 and 1080p HDTV, up to 32-Bit Color, supports all DVI-D Dual-Link and DVI-D Single-Link Monitors, is compliant with DisplayPort 1.1 and DVI 1.0

This is the adapter you'll also need if you want to be able to use ATI's 58xx series (5870, 5850) with a 3rd monitor using their "eyefinity".

Note: If you get this adapter and use it with a laptop and a 30 inch monitor, you will need to attach the adapter's USB plug to a powered USB hub or the monitor will flicker because the Dual Link it's not being supplied with enough power. On PCs you should see that problem since they usually can provide enough power to the adapter via its connectors... although if you do experience flickering on a PC, then try the powered USB hub solution there as well and that should solve it.
