this application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)

Post by KnightRid »

Can anyone help with that error message ( this application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)....) for the F@H GPU program under Windows 7 64bit?

This is driving me nuts. I have tried the regular nvidia drivers, the cuda drivers, along with the toolkit of course and NOTHING helps with the error!! I have uninstalled everything Nvidia, then reinstalled the cuda drivers, then the Toolkit and I STILL get that error!

I got the cpu folding going just fine, but the GPU is giving me fits!

Mike

Oh, this is on my 8800GT video card - just incase that matters. Also I have the [email protected] file that I installed for the GPU folding on the Nvidia card - hope I got the right one ;)

What driver are you running? Go into the device manager and check real quick. You shouldn't have to install anything other than the Win 7 driver though.

for drivers the safest thing i've found so far is to let windows install them by itself, for graphics anyway, its not like each driver update has 100% performance increases, the differences between most are negligible so i use what windows knows works.

but hey, i just use dual 9600GSOs F@H on win7 32(too bad extending monitor loses performance, such a pita to go from single monitor to extended just to fold and then back to game :x )

8.15.11.9038 - as shown in device manager
190.38 per nvidia control panel system information

I tried letting windows install the drivers then installing the cuda toolkit, got the error.
I tried downloading the newest drivers from the nvidia website, then installing the toolkit, got the error.
I tried downloading the cuda drivers from nvidias website, then installing the toolkit, got the error.

I just cant seem to win :(

Also with Windows 7 it does not say I have to restart when uninstalling and installing the video driver - should I do it anyway?

i always install Windows 7, restart
install chipset drivers, restart
install latest WHQL video card drivers, restart
install any and all other drivers needed for that motherboard, restart
run windows update, restart
install my software, restart
use system like normal

I've installed Windows 7 more than a few times on my personal system and never had an issue running F@H

Also why are you running 190.38 when 191.07 drivers are the latest WHQL drivers? As for the CUDA driver, toolkit and all that why do you need it? If you are just running F@H you don't need any of that.

I'd remove all NVIDIA drivers from your system and start over with just the standard 191.07 video card drivers.

when I had just the regular drivers installed it told me the cudart.dll or whatever it is called was not there and it couldnt run - so I installed the cuda toolkit, and that is when all of this happened - right from taht point on I keep getting that error.

sigh - I will try and remove everything, including f@h gpu and then reinstall it and see what happens.

cudart.dll is a file that goes in your

User->app data->roaming->Folding@homeGPU folder

if it is missing it wont run i guess, but its with your F@H installation, just check that folder, if its not there download it i guess

it IS there - thats what is so screwed up - yet I am back to the cudart.dll is missing so the program cant run thing - *sigh* maybe I will try and copy it to the system and system32 folders to see if that helps - I just dont get it.

Dump the toolkit, then you need to uninstall your drivers and install a set that supports CUDA! Then install GPU F@H and you should be good to go!
Make sure all previous driver versions have been uninstalled First!

Would it be possible to re-install the OS? A 30 min fix for a problem that has driven you nuts for days.

I did a little looking and the cudart.dll file is located here(at least on my comp)

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu

Try copying the file to that folder.

got it - copied the cudart.dll to the windows, system, system32 and the f@h gpu directory in program files (x86) and now it is working - ARGH

you are EVIL LOL - I hated doing it to go from Vista to 7, if Vista would have been working properly, I would have never upgraded!! WAY too many apps and **** to reinstall - its a PAIN
