Seagate Momentus 7200.5 750GB Hard Drive Review (ST9750420AS)

While not as glamorous as some of the exotic SSDs we have looked at lately, there's still heavy interested in spinning platter drives and we had a chance to spend some quality time with the largest Seagate Momentus 2.5" drive boasting an impressive 750GB capacity. How well will some of the new features increase performance? Read on to see.

There are still plenty of users who have not and will not make the SSD leap anytime soon, so in terms of the HDD realm, the Momentus 750GB drive is really a solid choice. Hanging with an albeit aging 10,000 RPM drive is no small feat and squeezing the virtually unmatched 750GB capacity into the 2.5" form factor while putting out that kind of performance is impressive.

Very nice hard drive. Any ideas on how long the hard drive shortages are going to last... I am wishing I bought a bunch of WD black 500GB drives to have in stock before the price doubled.

I'm not sure if the flood is over or not, but estimates are ~6 months to get back up and running after the flood ends.

Thanks for the quick reply. That is shorter than I would have thought to be honest. I also heard that some of the manufacturers are building new facilities in other parts of the world to help prevent a similar situation ever happening again.

This should teach them to put all their eggs into one basket. I was looking to buy a drive for a family member, not now. As far as Seagate I'd like to see them working on a new Momentus XT. With SSD caching becoming a standard, they need to exploit that.
