CES Announcement: Plextor Introduces M5M mSATA SSD Upgrade for Ultrabook Users

FREMONT, Calif., Jan. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plextor (http://www.goplextor.com), leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital storage devices, will introduce the M5M Solid State Drive at CES 2013. The streamlined M5M provides the same high-performance and reliability expected of a Plextor SSD in a space one-eighth the size of a standard 2.5 inch drive, making it especially well-suited for use in ultrabooks.

64/128/256GB Versions. The M5M is an mSATA 6Gb/s SSD following the JEDEC MO-300 form factor. It will be available during the first quarter of 2013 in 64/128/256 GB capacities. All versions feature sequential read speeds of 540 MB/s. The sequential write speeds for the three models are 160 MB/s, 320 MB/s and 430 MB/s respectively.

New Marvell Controller with True Speed. This long-anticipated drive features the latest Marvell 88SS9187 controller working in combination with True Speed technology for super enhanced performance and reliability. Plextor's exclusive True Speed technology—developed by their in-house firmware team—prevents SSD speed drops, automatically maintaining performance at like-new speeds. In addition, the M5M will feature Toshiba's new 19nm Toggle NAND flash memory.

Plextor's Exclusive True Protect Technology. The M5M also features Plextor's True Protect unique enterprise-grade double-data protection technology. True Protect is a multi-layer system to ensure the highest level of data integrity, combining the latest 128-bit error correction built into the Marvell controller with Plextor's exclusive firmware-based Robust Data Hold-out algorithm. The M5M also features 256-bit AES full-drive encryption, ensuring maximum data security.

DEVSLP Power Mode. The M5M supports DEVSLP power mode that reduces power consumption and extends battery life of an ultra-portable device. It can reduce the power consumption to 1mW and resume from DEVSLP mode in 100ms.

MTBF of 2.4 Million Hours. The M5M has an MTBF (mean time between failures) of 2.4 million hours. That level of reliability gives Plextor the highest ranking in the industry. This has been achieved through extensive development, strict quality control, and a stringent pre-production testing requirement of 400 drives passing 500 hours of intensive tests with zero errors.
