Build advice

Post by zatox »

Hi guys,

I need your professional help building a PC.
Most of my work is around sound editing, I need a pc with great sound and very fast capabilities (Editing, exporting, multiple programs etc...)

I was thinking about
CPU: i5-3570K (using the HD4000)
Motherboard: ASRock H77M (good enough?)
Sound: Xonar Essence STX
Memory: G.Skill DDR3 F3 12800CL8D 8GB
Storage: Crucial M4 256GB
PSU: whatever 400w (enough?)

What do you guys think?
Thanks

If using raw audio and making a lot of edits I would use a HDD for storage, a SSD is still great for an OS drive, but I would get a smaller one to save money there and get a nice big hard drive for storage (Probably a 1TB Western Digital caviar or Seagate Barracuda can be had around $70)

I would get at least a 600w Power supply for an i5 system for the best efficiency and upgrade-ability. as a preference I go with Corsair units as they are rock solid dependable even under abuse, other brands to go with: Thermaltake, PCPower & Cooling, seasonic, Antec Earthwatts, XFX, EVGA, and some OCZ units. I would never go with the off-brands I didn't list (Apevia, Coolmax, CoolerMaster to name a few)

But thats a strong CPU that should do whatever you need it to, good RAM, soundcard, and a compatible board

There is no point getting a K processor on an H77 motherboard. If you aren't going to overclock the motherboard is fine but you might as well save a few bucks and get a non-K CPU. If you are going to overclock get a Z77 and keep the current K CPU.

FYI, K means it's overclocker friendly (i.e. 3570K).
