XFX 7900GTX XXX Edition Video Card Review

Today Legit Reviews takes a look at the XFX GeForce 7900GTX 512MB DDR3 XXX Edition. This card is the fastest of FIVE GeForce 7900 GTX models that XFX is selling and is clocked at 700MHz on the core and 1.8GHz on the memory. We will also cover NVIDIA's move to a 90nm process and look at GeForce 7900 versus the GeForce 7800 series.

Image
There is no doubt that the 7900GTX is one fast card, easily the fastest card available from Nvidia. The introduction of the 7900GTX has put Nvidia back in contention for fastest video card available, but according to our testing, can’t quite make the claim of the fastest. Even with the core speed of our XFX card clocked to 700 MHz the 7900GTX just doesn’t have enough to pull it off, but is very close.

:: Drool ::

Love to get my hands on any of the cards on that list...the 7900 looks very sweet.

Cool article!
Just a little puppy trying to make it in a big digital world.

Great review! I personally am looking forward to seeing some 7900GT reviews as well. The 1900XT is looking very good though as well... so many cards to play with , so little time!

Thanks guys! It has been some long nights the past few days and more to come..

You are right about so many cards in so little time! The stack keeps growing faster than I can get them out!!!
You'll be seeing several reviews coming up in the next 10 days.

Very nice review! I'm still more impressed with the 1900XT/XTX though! I was hoping to pick one of the 7900 series cards up when it came out for my friend (from all the hype), but seeing how the 1900 series cards are still top notch in the market, I'll stick with ATI for my build.

 more impressed with the X1900 xtx/xt

the 7900 gtx is a lot faster than these cards even a stock 650 clocked one is faster, and is probably just as expesive as a 1900 xt, in sli the difference is even bigger...

LR's numbers are far different from those websites reviews... LR shows the 1900 series dominating Serious Sam 2 (for example) while Guru3d shows the exact opposite... :-s That VR-Zone shows very close numbers between the cards for the same game...

I'm still more impressed with the 1900 series card. Frequency of the memory and core mean jack. Look at Intel vs. AMD. AMD whoops Intel in performance MHz to MHz.

Yes that why i wrote 'real numbers' , this review is the opposite of all reviews, even the X1800 is doing better than the 7900 gtx, its a pitty there's no 9800 pro to compare with lolll

the X1900 isnt a bad card, but it performs less and cost maybe even more, but both cards are very good cards and would be glad with either one of these

Please note that for all tests, excluding 3D Mark 2006, Nvidia image quality settings were set from "Quality" to "High Quality."
mayby the other sites used the CP defaults?

just for fairness of competition IQ SHOULD be set to HQ in drivers(to diminish AF issues in nV 7-series) otherwise it makes a little sense to compare ultra high-end cards (moreover, i'm not even sure if HQAF should be necessarily set as it is additional feature of x1k series which further improve AF quality).
So far I haven't seen guru3d reviewers use those settings, correct me if i'm wrong.

Nice try anyway and kudos to authors !

from vr-zone's review:
The Single Card scores for the ATi X1800XT/X1900XTXs were ran on the same ASUS A32N SLI Board to obtain as fair results for each GPU as possible. Only in Dual Card Cross-Fire modes were they ran on the ASUS A8R32 MVP Board
 the fairest thing is to run ati card on nv mobo.
