Once I find a job that pays more than peanuts (college grad that can't find a job - DON"T GET A BUSINESS DEGREE) I plan on rebuilding my HTPC and snaking a 8600GT in it. The only down side to this is the hit or miss HDMI support that makes the HD2600XT look appealing. How loud was the fan on the HD2600XT and would it be audible in the background? How would you rate the playback of HD content of the 8600GT and the HD2600XT? Which would you suggest? My HTPC plays zero games, it just acts as a media center and TV playback.

Can you tell me in layman's terms how the audio on the HDMI ATi cards works? Do I still need a sound card (discrete or onboard) or does the card produce the sound? Are the cards HDMI audio Dolby Digital/DTS compliant?
