Gateway notebook with no audio

Post by vanraz »

Hi,

I received a Gateway (MX7120) notebook. It had the hd in just one partition with a tiny XP previous installed on. I didn't like the idea that has just one partition, so decided to reinstall the XP on it. So far so good. From install menu I created 2 partitions, one for system and the other for backup and the rest of my documents. When I installed the drivers dowloaded from Gateway support, I had a bitter surprise on several drives, especially on audio. The driver was something like Sigmatel and supports an AC97 from Realtek. I've reinstalled XP trying again the Tiny XP, XP sp1, sp2 and other versions but the same message "this system does not support the driver you are attempting to install". This message appear after the driver is installing itself and need to reboot, after reboot this message make my life miserable. I tried to download other versions for audio drivers from Gateway, but not solved my problem. I've downloaded several versions of drivers for AC97 from Realtek, but my problem persists. What can I do? Does anybody know what can it be? Does anybody have a similar case? Waiting for your help...

Thanks

i have the AC'97 and i can only use the drivers that came with my motherboard(when i try to update, it disables the audio), so try putting the driver disk in and installing with that

hey skierkid, I don't have the cd for MB drivers, I've downloaded the drivers from Gateway support. So that's not the problem. The problem is appearing to be when I'm installing the driver and at the reboot i get the message "this system does not support the driver you are attempting to install" and the installation is killed. I'm not sure what is the problem #-o

try to find older drivers, it could be that the hardware does not support the newest drivers because the new ones deal with a change in hardware specs, and it runs just fine on the old ones

rather than posting twice in same forum, try just posting in another one, people from other sites might be able to help(but dont stray from LR entirely :) )
