Got a the 3500+ in the DFI SLI-D testbed and paired up with some OCZ PC-3200 VX memory!

Looks like everything is okay on CPU-Z now it's time to play with this platform! Here is the test bed:

Well I haven't even had the system up and being tested for an hour yet, but I am already impressed. :drinkers: I hit 2.8GHz on default CPU voltage on the new venice core at 255FSB by the stock multiplier of 11. Below is the screenshot of the overclock and it has been validated. Now it's time to see what else this chippy can do!

Image

I just noticed on my picture that the stepping is "ABBLE", wonder what this new core will top out at! \:D/

Hi Apoptosis,

Looks like I'll be waiting for the Venice CPU's to arrive.

yeah it is well worth the wait... if you note the CPU validation you will not that the memory is running 510MHz at 2-2-2 timings also. Pretty impressive and I haven't moved the jumper over for 4V vDIMM yet either.

Very nice results so far, can't wait to see what this thing can do.

Well, I changed PSU's and moved over to a 620W OCZ PowerStream PSU and the 3500+ seems to like the extra voltage. On the previous PSU (Forton 520W 24-pin ATX) i was unable to hit over 255FSB at 11 no matter what voltage I used. Now with the OCZ PSU and 1.45Vcore I am able to hit 260FSB on the Venice AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor.

If I could just get 3GHz out of this!

Changed out the memory from OCZ PC-3200 Gold VX to Corsair's XMS 3200 XL and was able to hit this:

Image

For some reason after changing memory i can max out the CPU Voltage, thus allowing more headroom on the FSB.

My AMD 3500+ Venice MAX FSB's

11 = 265MHz
10 = 290MHz
9.5 = 305MHz
9 = 321MHz

Note how everything is hitting just at/under 2.9GHz. On an unmodded board with air cooling 2.9Ghz looks to be the top end of this processor.

man so close to 3ghz... i can only hope that more chips will do 3ghz. If they top out at 2.8 then i may not upgrade seems silly for only 200mhz and i might get more out of mine when i put it under water anyway.

:shock: I don't know what to say..that is very cool. Are you still using stock cooler?
I'm hoping my 4000+ San Diego can hit this or possibly 3GHz on an XP120. Monarch is still reporting that it "should" ship on Friday. *crosses fingers*

I am running air cooling with the stock 4000+ HSF from AMD. A picture of this can be seen here

I am also at the highest voltage option available on the DFI SLi-D motherboard at 1.55V.

drop the voltage to 1.45 and set the special vid control to 110-113%, which should give you 1.60-1.625, the max you want to put through that processor.....thats what the special vid control is there for. also make sure to drop the startup voltage to 1..45 too.

yeah I tried that and i can get 265x11 or 2.915GHz and thats not really stable for SuperPi and other tests. Still at the 2.9GHz wall.
