OCZ Technology Announces the First Products to Implement the New OCZ XTC Heatspreader.

Sunnyvale, CA—October 25, 2005—OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory, is extremely excited to announce the PC-3200 and PC-3500 Gold GX series modules which will be the first two products to utilize the latest OCZ heatspreader design. The new, patent-pending XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) Heatspreaders allow increased ventilation and heat dissipation due to an innovative honeycomb design providing more direct access to the actual memory ICs.

The unique design used in the XTC heatspreaders optimizes the thermal management of memory modules by promoting greater airflow by means of micro-convection throughout what is usually the dead air space inside conventional heatspreader designs. In this manner, build-up of heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time, mechanical stability is maintained.

“Memory modules that implement conventional, solid heatspreaders provide sufficient heat dissipation but do not adequately address the build up of heat pockets; The new Xtreme Thermal Convention Heatspreader design tackles this problem and more," commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. "Our goal is to get rid of the thermal load as quickly and efficiently as possible. A honeycomb perforation contour promotes the physical escape of hot air from the space in between the individual memory components, thus enhancing the performance of the high performance Gold GX series and preserving the life of the ICs and future parts to come.”

The PC-3200 and PC-3500 Gold Gamer eXtreme Series with 2-2-2-5 timings will be the first OCZ memory parts to include the new XTC heatspreader. The new Gold GX series modules are designed and qualified with special selection of premium components to maximize performance when playing even the most demanding graphics intensive games. With the addition of the new gold mirrored XTC heatspreader, the GX series in now better than ever.

The PC-3200 & PC-3500 Gold GX XTC series will be available in 512MB modules and 1GB (2x512) dual channel optimized kits. All OCZ memory solutions come backed with an industry-leading lifetime warranty and toll-free, direct technical support for unparalleled piece of mind!

wow :( thumbs down sorry OCZ the big Z looks like ass and if the extra air vents help cool then why are you even using a heat spreader??? The whole concept of a heatspreader is that the flat metal disapates the heat through the whole. By using two different metals and perferating holes the contact area is greatly reduced. Im going to have to see some third party tests showing an improvement over existing HS designs befor i buy this one.

Don't Ram companies just add the heatspreader to hide and protect the IC under them?

ie. OCZ finds a cheap source of IC's which can do 2,2,2,5 (UTT etc.) -> to get a jumpstart on the competition they buy up all they can b4 the others find out...People are aways asking "what IC do they use?"
People have being saying for ages, heatspreaders DO NOTHING! -> look @ G.Skill

They also make the RAM look nice! -> Some people will buy for this reason alone..

/me thinks I'm gonna take off the heatspreaders off my 3200 Gold 2nite/

Sorry OCZ....I love your products....I have 1GB of plat rev.2 - 1GB of 3200 Gold (thanx LR and OCZ) - 1GB of 3200 Performance Series - a DDR Booster - and a PowerStream 600W --> BUT your lovely heatspreaders, shiny PSU cases etc. mean nothing to me.... (don't have a side window on my case)

In the end OCZ make/source great products... So if this heatspreader comes out, even if it does or doesn't allow you to clock higher.. who cares? Innovation, good or bad..is good for the consumer, more options! (in the end void 'da warranty :) )

Just my 2 cent
