abit AW9D-MAX i975 Express Motherboard Review

The abit AW9D-MAX motherboard is based on the Intel 975X chipset and was designed by abit to destroy the competition. With support for all the latest Intel dual-core and quad-core processors the AW9D series is ready for all enthusiasts can throw at them. In this article we take the recently released Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' motherboard and pair it against the AW9D-MAX 'Bushido' to see which board comes out on top!

The abit AW9D-MAX motherboard is one of the best Intel 965P/975X motherboard that I have used to date. It's actually refreshing using a motherboard like the abit AW9D-MAX because everything just works out of the box. The NVIDIA 680i chipset has gotten a ton of attention in recent weeks, but at the same time it launched with numerous bugs that are just now starting to be taken care of via BIOS updates. The Intel 975 Express chipset has been on the market for over a year and has 99% of the bugs worked out, which is nice for those of us that want to set up their system with a stable overclock and be done.

If you've been reading our motherboard reviews over the past years you'll notice this review layout is a bit different. What do you guys think of this format??

I like it the new format because different aspects of the board are tested rather than more or less random tests. The audio test is a nice touch. I thought the older bar graphs were a little easier on the eyes though.

I'm curious how the IN9 32X-MAX board will perform, and what the price will be.

thanks for the feedback... We plan on keeping the format the same and I was just messing around with the graphs and made those for this article for fun.

I'm also interested in how the IN9 32X-MAX will do. They went into production today. ;)

Good review...would've been interesting to see the Quad-core run with this thing. Hopefully, Abit will understand that holding back BIOS updates can really stop a mobo from being purchased (at least for me). Price point is great though.... looks like this would be a serious contender for anyone building an Intel-based board.

This is one heck of a board! Bios issues seem to be running wild these days though... not sure why, but it is sure getting annoying!
