@infinitevalence You are right, waiting is the thing to do at this moment, with the upcoming 939 socket. However, prices are likely to be high with a new introduction. So it will take another few months before they become affordable and/or production volumes are high enough to reach your local dealer.

That's a nice bonus!

It will not work with the next generation cards (well they are just released), this softmodding. Where with an 9800se the pipelines are just disabled, the new ones pipilines simply don't work in lower end cards!

Yes, if you are not into overclocking, why spend extra money, just go with the value ram, you'll be fine. Certainly with the recent price of memory going up.

I don't have one actually, but if you are in search for one, the Asus K8V Deluxe gets some good reviews! Lot's of options too.

Although ATI and NVidia have only just brought out there new vidcards, I would suggest you wait a few weeks. These new cards will bring the prices of the now lower end cards down normally, so save some money and still have a nice card!

imo your best bet would be a Thermaltake Silent Boost HSF, but only with the fan at low speed, since you are into low noise. It gets a bit noisier with the fan on high, but since you don't overclock, your temps will still be ok.

Yes, next year is going to bring al sorts of new stuff. It's a nice time for an upgrade next year, only bad for the wallet, I guess :o I believe Intel is pushing the BTX standard, there processors are almost, or over 100w nowadays, and they have more need than AMD to get all the cooling they can get...

That's ridiculous, how many business people need to run Windows on their lap tops? They don't have the need for a fast gpu, heck, I don't think you can get performance levels like a nvidia 6800 in a laptop by then  Even the processors in laptops are optimised for low power consumption, not raw ...
