Re: General FPS-benchmark question

Thanks Apoptosis,

I'm probably not going to reinstall the OS since this is just for my own benchmark instead of official one, but aside from that I'll try to follow all of the steps. Fraps does seem to have much better logging features than RivaTuner, so I'll use that instead.

General FPS-benchmark question

Hey guys, I've always been referring to legit reviews for every new graphics card that comes out when I would consider purchasing. Now I've bought a new 8800GTS 512 (after my old one died :( ) and this baby seems to be overclocking much better (now running 824/1103 stable on stock), although I can't...

Re: GeForce 9800 GTX Reader Poll

The biggest question for me remains this: If 9800GTX is the same overclocked 8800GTS 512, what's 9800GTS supposed to be? It's supposed to be a little worse than the 9800GTX but better than 8800GTS 512, but there is really not that much room in there for a new card. Are we going to end up with 3 clon...

Re: Palit 8800 GTS 1GB Sonic SLI Video Card Review

Wow, I'm very impressed by this card, and this in turn depresses me even more about the 9800 series. Not only the 9800GTX is architecturally identical to 8800GTS 512, but now we actually see that if NVIDIA wasn't lazy and actually did up the RAM size on those things, the cards would be worthy of the...

RAID 1 Harddrives

I have a 500GB Seagate harddrive with 32MB buffer, at first I was considering buying another one of those to use in RAID1. However, recently lots of reviews have been popping up suggesting that this particular drive seems to have a high mortality rate. So far I've been lucky enough that mine works, ...

Re: XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB GDDR3 Video Card Review

I'm a bit dissapointed with the way both SLI and Crossfire is being used. It's supposed to give a better gaming experience, but there are better and more efficient ways to use this excess processing power. I'm more curious to see SLI/Crossfire used to reproduce real 3D environments as opposed to alt...

Re: XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB GDDR3 Video Card Review

Regardless of the power requirements, the EVGA 8800GTS 512 is a beast of a card and handles all current games with ease. If it were up to me, I would stick with what you have. At least I'm talking my own advice and passing on the "step up" program at this time. Unfortunatelly my GTS doesn't overclo...

Re: XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB GDDR3 Video Card Review

There are 6-to-8 pin adapters, a mod (RyderOCZ) on the OCZ forums even stated that the PSU should easily be able to power the 9800GX2 with the adapter. Also, a post on xtremesystems by jonnyGURU states that the 2 extra wires are actually grounds (so you can substitute them from an unused connector)....

Re: XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB GDDR3 Video Card Review

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Normally I'd never buy the top card since it typically means 10% improvement at twice the price, I especially did not like the idea of a GX2 card seeing how awesome their previous GX2 turned out  . However, i bought the EVGA 8800GTS 512 on launch date (Dec 11) and my...

Re: Building New PC

Thanks for the link, I was seriously considering buying it, but all the horror stories definitely changed my mind. dicecca112, your recommended cooling system seems like a good solution, but after reading a few reviews I'm worried that with a GPU waterblock added to the system and overclocked compon...

Re: Building New PC

Alright, would it be a good investment to buy a second memory kit to get 4 GB? Also, I stumbled upon this liquid chiller as well (it seems to be using different method from conventional radiator), what do you guys think of it: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5345/ex-wat-111/CoolIT_Systems_Eliminat...

Building New PC

I have been researching different PC components, and have picked the following base components (the prices in parentheses are the cheapest I could find with shipping included): CPU: Core 2 Duo E6750 ($200) Motherboard: DFI BLOOD IRON P35-T2RL ($147) Memory: Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB PC2 6400 4...

E6750 memory question

I was looking at E6750 processor and now becoming more confused. At first, the fact that it has 1333 MHz bus speed lead me to believe that it uses DDR3 memory (Since that's a DDR3 frequency). However, one of the benchmarks used the processor with 800 MHz of dual-channel Corsair memory instead. But i...

So if I understand correctly, there are 2 ways of implementing software RAID, one is by using one of the new SATA motherboards with southbridge that supports SATA RAID so that the operating system isn't aware of it, and another is by emulating RAID through the operating system itself? Also, I notice...

Well, then I have a couple more questions. I have heard that Windows 2003 Server is pretty reliable when it comes to software RAID (although maybe not as reliable as hardware), and I have access to it through MSDN Academic Alliance (which surprisingly still works even though I graduated a couple of ...

quick RAID question

Well, this might seem like a silly question, but I just need to confirm something. I'm planning to build a file server with a raid 5 configuration (since I already had 2 harddrives die on me this year and lost quite a bit of data - both were from 3-6 years ago). As far as I know, software RAID 5 wil...

On many motherboards, 65 degrees is the default for the alarm in BIOS (and 70 is the shutdown if I remember correctly), so the overheating of your CPU, as others have mentioned, could easily be the reason for the alarm seeing how its 63 degrees in idle. Here is what I'm wondering though, could it be...

I'm thinking of buying myself a nice set of headphones, which I could use for listening to music, movies on my pc, and playing games. To quickly summarize my needs (in case you don't feel like reading the whole thread): -Need to block as much outside sound as possible (even when I'm not listening to...
