Re: ATI Radeon HD 4850 Versus NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+
I don't have a problem with the numbers but I don't like the fact that you reviewed a card that is not out yet and is by all accounts at least $30 - $60 more expensive than the one you were comparing it against. It seems like you were careful to let everyone know that they could buy NVIDIA cards tod...

Re: Can anyone Help?
Most support files for software that old are built into the default XP/Vista installation so you might get lucky by simply copying the program from one computer to the next. Look for the program under Program Files and copy the entire folder. On the new computer, copy the files to the same location ...

Re: AMD Dual core and Windows XP
You could check your device manager to see if you have all drivers correctly loaded. You can find that under Properties of My Computer (right-click My Computer and select Properties) and it will highlight any "unknown" devices with a flag. Also, if you have an nVidia system then I recommen...

Re: anyone know how to crop video files?
VirtualDub works well also. You just add a filter like resize or brightness to your image processing list and then there is a cropping button in the Video filters dialog that sets the cropping visually.

Re: Windows Boot Manager
Try VistaBootPRO at http://www.pro-networks.org. It will allow you to remove an OS entry or maybe you could set the default countdown time to zero. Whoops, sorry, I thought you wanted to keep Vista and get rid of XP. But maybe you are still using the Vista boot manager so it might work under XP??? I...

Re: DVD combo: LiteOn or Samsung?
I have that LiteOn drive and it has worked fine on DVD and DVD DL burning (only one coaster in about 10 - the drive/software just locked up and I had to reboot). But why not get a drive with lightscribe capability? The Samsung S203N and 203S models both have that feature for only about $5 more. They...

Re: Gaming Mouse Pads
I have a new Logitech MX518 and I purchased a RatPadZ GS mouse pad. The new mouse was working OK under Vista but I had to adjust the default mouse settings which required way too much movement and time to cover both of my monitors. After that adjustment I was ok with the new mouse but when I started...

Re: I run on a UPS. Do you?
I wonder why no one has ever designed a UPS and PSU that work together. The UPS could output DC to the PSU, maybe even to the LCD monitor, and save a lot of energy wasted converting DC to AC and back to DC. Plus it would simplify the design of the PSU and LCD power supply circuity.

Re: Hard disk constantly spinning up
It doesn't spin down every 25 minutes. It spins up, reads some data for a couple of seconds, spins down and then 20 seconds later it spins up again. It must be a different setting.

Hard disk constantly spinning up
Hi, I have Vista Ultimate on one hard disk and XP on another. When I'm using Vista I constantly get a spinning up from one drive. I believe it is the XP drive which has some data files that occasionally get accessed. My power settings in Vista are "Balanced" with the hard disk set to turn ...

Re: ATI's Upcoming R700 GPU's Tape Out - Radeon 4000 Series
I think the old days of completely rebuilt designs/architecture or massive increases in transistors are gone. At one point about 1-2 years ago ATI said that their next designs would continue to push the power supply envelope (brute force approach) but after that we would start to see an increased fo...

Re: remove certain amount of characters
Your best bet is to do a google search for "batch rename". You will find a number of low-cost products that do exactly what you are looking for. If you want to chance the freebie programs then go to the zdnet website and search for the same thing in their downloads section.

Re: sp3 due out feb 23?
The PCMag article says IE7 will be part of the SP but not according to Microsoft as of Dec 18th. The service pack will update IE 6 or IE 7 depending on which version is allready installed. Basically it is a good thing for people who are installing XP, they can slipstream all the latest hotfixes and ...

I've had extremely good service with NCIX so far... apparently a Canadian Newegg is opening sometime, but I'll probably stick with NCIX unless they give me problems in the future, especially with their pricematching I can use if anything at newegg is cheaper. Good to know there will be more choice ...

Is this a 6-bit or 8-bit panel? The thing that always bothers me about cheaper LCDs is looking at the icons on the system tray. They always seem very low res and have poor colors. So that gives me a bad impression right off the mark. I think this is due to the 6-bit display but I'm not sure if that ...
