Well, we actually broke our own budget and went $99 over on a no name laptop that is pretty much decked out. I'll add a couple sticks of cheap RAM and a faster HD down the road and she will be good to go. Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 Processor: 1.4 GHz Intel Centrino...

Thanks for the responses, that's what I figured. I did see some refurbished 12" Averatecs on their website in the $750 range. Just a bit too expensive. They look really nice though, and much better prices than most of the other 12" notebooks out there. :?

Need to build a reliable 12" laptop on the cheap

Is there any way to build a lightweight portable 12" laptop for around $500-600? I know the answer is probably no, but it would be perfect for my wife. She needs a thin and light notebook for surfing the net, email, very low-tech games such as Yahoo! games, mah jongg, etc. She will need to be a...

Speaking of which, I'm going to start a thread about putting together a notebook for my wife. Thanks for reminding me. :)

stlgirl,

How do you like the WUXGA screen? I am returning a 9300 because of the WSXGA+ screen and waiting on my replacement system with the WUXGA.

My choice was between the 9400 and e1705. I went with the e1705 for a few reasons: 1) It has Windows MCE, which would make it easier to use it as a DVR later on if I buy the tv tuner. 2) I could not apply the $650 off coupon to the 9400 for some reason. 3) the Dual Layer DVD burner was thrown in for...

Just ordered my Dell e1705

Well, Dell wouldn't replace my screen on the 9300 with a better model so that one is going back and I have ordered the replacement. I've never just gone pretty much 'all out' on a laptop or even close to it, so here's my system. Cost me about $670 more than the sweet 9300 I am returning. (sweet othe...

Grrr, They offered me $100 to not return the laptop. I don't think they understand. I can't work on that crappy screen all day.

It's all boxed up and ready to go. :(

Also, TK421, I have a rating of 9 (even though I bought much more than that, just didn't get many people leaving feedback), and don't think I have a premium account, but I was still allowed to choose what rating people need to be allowed to bid on my item (I choose anyone with 0 or higher), so I do...

Ugh, their first response was 'return and re-order'. I have responded asking if there is anything they can do as I like the laptop, it is just the screen which is unbearable. This means a week or two of waiting for the credit and then another week to get the re-order. Oh well, I'll probably ge...

Ok that sounds great. Right now I am waiting on Dell Customer Support to get back to me, but if they won't replace the bad screen with the wuxga (even at my expense) then I'd be interested in getting one from you, if the price is right. Also, later on I will be upgrading my video card to the 6800 G...
