I think removing battery for sometime (1 to 2 hrs) will clear CMOS ???

About rebuilding MBR
Does rebuilding MBR harms hard disk data(ie does it erases data ?) I have installed Ubuntu alongside windows 7(inside Windows 7 with dual boot, no separate partition). And I need to remove GRUB so remove Linux completely. I know that it can be done by rebuilding MBR. If i uninstall Ubuntu from windo...

Intel DG22TL motherboard
I cannot save BIOS configurations. I modified the BIOS settings and also saved while exiting but after again when i went to BIOS setting, it was as it was before. So I thought that the CMOS battery had expired but even after installing new battery, I cannot save the configurations.
