Re: Sound cards of today
My new system I assembled last weekend (for a friend) has an ASUS Xonar DX under Vista 64 Ultimate on an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI. Very clean installation with no drivers issues (used driver on included CD). I was quite happy to see that some manufacturer is finally using the PCI-e slot. http://www.newegg.c...

I was fortunate enough to get in on this offer from Microsoft. I received two Ultimate discs (one 32bit and one 64 bit) each with a discrete serial number. Others have reported that the 32 bit serial will function on the 64 bit DVD. Two free versions of Ultimate can not be beat.

Re: HDD: 320 2-plate vs 250 1-plate reliability
Actually, you are referring to the discs or platters that form the basis of the storage system. The latest increase in disc density has resulted in a single platter that can store 320GB. With fewer spinning discs, noise, heat and vibration all typically decrease. If the aforementioned reductions wil...

Re: required PSU wattage for the system
I take umbrage with your statement regarding the statement "I am looking for "decent/ok", not "very good"." A solid power supply is the most important component in any system. You will do yourself a favor and follow the advice given here. http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair...

I recently purchased 1950 XT AGP. Prior to this purchase, I spent much time researching the 1950 AGP on many forums. I read accounts from disparate posters that had the 1950 Pro AGP or the 1950XT AGP. One consistent issue that ran through all of the threads was the need to have a high quality power ...

One case you might want to consider would be the PC-A05 or PC-A05B by Lian Li. Very good air flow (can be great with minor modifications) and can be very quiet depending on the fans selected. Plenty of room for an 8800GTX or 2900XT and a Tuniq Tower or Ultra 120 Extreme. http://www.newegg.com/Produc...

The included power supply providing 19 amperes on the twelve volt rail should be sufficient for the assemblage of components listed. You will run into a power issue if you upgrade the video card to a more robust offering, but you can tackle that limitation if and when you upgrade the video. Another ...
