Re: Advice & Suggestions on first build under $3k budget
I have seen the Catleap's on other boards before. I worry about reliability, an 8 bit IPS display for ~$350, something has to be up with it. If you are looking on input on the specs of it, IPS displays are wonderful. I run 2 30" IPS display's and really debate getting a third from time to time....

Re: cant follow links
It does, but not everyone wants to have to install a browser (even though there are far superior ones than IE) to fix a stupid windows hiccup.

Re: cant follow links
Assuming win7 its under "Default Programs" either right on the start menu or in control panels. Use the "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" option, then its just a matter of finding the appropriate file types and protocols in the list (file types and protocols are ...

Re: Need help and opinion about a software
I may be wrong, but this just has to be spam (though creative spam). Not a programmer, but want to develop an application dealing with some rather complex protocols? Add to this asking not on any of the usual programming sites/forums but on a review site (not that this wont get a valid answer, but r...

Re: cant follow links
Check your file associations for htm/html as well as the http/https protocols. Reset them if anything or try setting them to another browser, then back to IE.

Re: Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless 7.1 Gaming Headset Revie
Most of the time the batteries in these are not replaceable. I know in my SB Tactic Wraith's they are not replaceable at all. That is a drawback to these (especially considering the cost) but I figure by the time the battery stops holding a charge I can either just use them while plugged in or go wi...

Re: Corsair Accelerator 30GB On The Way
I really hope I am replying on the live server to this.... Did disabling all startup programs and non-essential services make a difference? Make sure you disable non-essential microsoft ones as well including the .net NGEN services. If doing that does not make a difference, the problem is a much lar...

Re: Corsair Accelerator 30GB On The Way
Kill everything out of your startup, and do a reboot. It *should* be back to the quick speed. Then re-enable startup processes one at a time until you find the offender. It may not be a single process causing the issue, but a combination of them as well so if you think you have found the offender, d...

Re: The ultimate speed for Storage devices
Ramdisk's arent really anything new. I remember having one on my old commodore 64 way back. They are great for some things, but be extremely careful that anything that gets written/saved to the ram disk that you need long term is written back to the physical HD. Ram disk's are really common in serve...

Re: file recovery
Data recovery time has very very little to do with CPU and memory. Depending on how large the drive is, if it is damaged (and how badly) and how many bad sectors it has this could take a very long time to complete if the recovery software is doing a low level scan/recovery. Depending on what happene...

Re: Windows 8 preview
True, but Win2k ended being bastardized for home use when ME flopped. At least from what I experienced it did. You could buy Win2k PC's from best buy/compusa/etc, and most of the gamers I knew around that time used it as it ran DirectX and most games ran fine on it. Some did dualboot 2k/98 to get ar...

Re: Enterprise Servers - Stepping up to the big boys
FYI, AV racks are typically not server depth. You may want to check, rack mount servers are really deep (an HP DL 350 for example is about 28-30"). As for reliability, the number of drives does not make it more reliable, in fact it in a way makes the array less reliable though that is an entire...

Re: remote server access
SBS 2011 Essentials does not have remote web access (RWA) set up by default. You will ideally need to set this up (and get an SSL cert, i would recommend against a self signed one for ease of use) which will allow you to securely tunnel (via SSL) to pc's/server using remote desktop. Your other optio...

Re: Drive Cloning Software (Revisited)
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx I have used it very successfully at several customers. I have even managed to image an old NT4 drive and restore the image to a much larger drive on another machine due to the original PC being extremely corroded (yay chemicals!). It can be used to do a disk t...

Re: Opinions: HP DeskJet 1000
I have to agree with Knight, get a cheap laser. The amount you will save in ink vs toner will cover the cost of the printer, especially if you go through periods without using it. Ink cartridges will 'dry out' no matter what the manufacturer says, its usually the ink in the print head that dries out...

Re: Enterprise Servers - Stepping up to the big boys
Way overkill. Remember "Enterprise" typically means things like SCSI/SAS drives (smaller drives), and very loud fans (that push a ton of air) as in a rack noise doesnt really matter. If it is a tower formfactor, the fans may not be so loud, but the thing will be HUGE (I have an HP ML350 si...

Re: Windows 8 preview
Win8 = WinME = pass skip every other version of windows, works out to be the one they use as the test bed. 95 - sucked 98 - good ME - sucked XP - good Vista - sucked Win7 - good Win8 - sucks so far for what I have seen. Problem with this thought process is that people always leave out Win2k. It may...

Though I do have a special hatred for OSX lately, mostly dealing with certain parts of its network stack. Whoever wrote the SMB stack in Lion deserves a special little place in hell. And yet you have a Macbook Air :finga: Yup, i have to support the damn things from time to time so i force myself to...
