Thanks everyone! My optical drive still had not arrived but I got around the problem with a usb hard disk. I booted from the usb hard disk and installed from there. Seems like most newer bios will accept booting from usb drives.

Well, alphapc says that the backplane is part of the optical drive and cannot be sold separately. So I guess that means that I will have to order the optical drive from them. It's 109 + 10 for shipping. And it's another 10 bucks restocking fee to return my optical drive to newegg. Should have done t...

I am going to ask for this backplane from alphapc but just wanted to make sure that it is not a proprietory part that comes bundled with the optical drive. Silly me. I got mine from alphapcstore.com

Called them about my order (to change from M6N to M6Ne), sounds like a mom&pop shop but they've been pretty responsive with my order so far.

Anyone care to share their purchase list?

Hi everyone, I am thinking of assembling my own whitebox as well. Thinking of using the M6N (15' XGA) as the chasis, and looking at Dothan 1.7, 1 stick corsair pc2700 512mb ram, Fujitsu 4800rpm 80gig HD, panasonic slot-loading CDRW/DVD combo drive, and Intel Pro 2200 wireless g/b with no os installe...
