Re: Which eReader?

But, if you just want to read books? I have an i5 Windows 7 ASUS tablet at work that I don't use but I read books every day on my Droid X... Its all in what you are looking for. As an additional point the iPad doesn't have expandable memory or a replaceable battery, the new throw away tablet world i...

Re: Which eReader?

It depends on what it is going to be used for. If all you need is an e-reader and not a lot else then I would think the Fire would be OK according to a lot of reviews I've read, as a tablet I would have to agree with Major_A and he had the advantage of having to set one up. If it IS just an e-reader...

Re: Warmachine 3.0 Build

Just curious here, how did you move your Documents folder (aka username folder)? I'd like to do this but I figured if I moved them then Windows would just create a new folder and I'd lose saved games, preferences, etc... Did you tell the registry where to look or some other means? I didn't move the...

Re: Warmachine 3.0 Build

It's not really speed enhancements, rather write enhancements. The NAND in the SSD is only good for so many writes, this in theory minimizes the unnecessary writes. You might want to disable System Restore, that alone likes to take up a bunch of room. I'm finding my save games take up a ton of room...

Re: New motherboard recommendation thread

I have the Z68 Extreme 4 and like it but some folks have had some stability issues. I would go with a Z68 board and a 2500k (I beleive it has the Intel GMA 3000). If she is doing video transcoding and such the Intel graphics will do better than a discrete card and save you $80. With that you could b...

Re: New motherboard recommendation thread

When you say copying videos does that mean ripping from DVD etc or just storing videos or is it a video recording system?

Re: Warmachine 3.0 (i5 2500K build)

The main difference between the two is that the Intel is an SLC drive with a much longer lifespan. And the intel is a Sata II drive where the Crucial is Sata III. Also the write speed on the Intel is faster. Also you HAVE to use the Intel controller the Marvell won't work with this. From a customer ...

Re: Warmachine 3.0 (i5 2500K build)

I don't know. I have two 30GB Corsair SSDs in RAID 0 as my primary boot drive. I try to install all of my apps on my D drive (2x1TB RAID 0) but there's still a ton of application data that ends up on C. That being said I'm running out of room fast on the little drives. The worry there is the less s...

Re: Server specs recommendation

 ! Wow! That was a mouthful! Thanks so very much! I'll look into all your recommendations and see what I come up with. The main reason I looked into the "higher end" :) equipment and OS is because of the expected service life of this proposed server. There could very well be a comp...

Re: Server specs recommendation

It's me again with yet another Village of Sloan computer conundrum. I have to find 3 separate "bids" for a new server for Village Hall. In my opinion, it does not have to be a screamer because they use it more for a file server and would like to be able to back up files from users to be i...

Re: Which GPU to buy (BF3)

It was OHHH so close for me getting the Toxic 6950 but TBH the only games I am looking forward to (Diablo III, Guild Wars 2, Torchlight 2 etc) will play fine on my trusty 5870 and I could use the $110 on other more responsible things :( So I got him the 6870 and will keep my 5870 (or maybe swap it i...

Re: Which GPU to buy (BF3)

Good to hear from a few folks who have played the Beta. Even though I know that isn't what will necessarily be in the release it makes me feel a little better. I also want to get a better CPU cooler So will be picking him up a Kuhler 620. I looked at the 560ti and 570s but If I get a card better tha...

Which GPU to buy (BF3)

Was going to post in the GPU section but could be either brand. Here is the delimma. I preordered my son BF3. He is currently running on an E6850 on a Gigabyte mobo with 4GB DDR2 and an Nvidia 8800GT. I think this game is gonna' eat his system for lunch from what I have been hearing at least on any ...

Re: ASUS P67 Sabertooth vs eVGA Z68 FTW

I just noticed something else about the eVGA boards. They have socket 775 mounting holes in addition to he 1155 holes! That means I can just bolt on my Swiftech GTZ without ordering brackets for it! Now THAT is something other vendors should offer! :supz: So does the Asrock Extreme4 Gen3. As you ca...

Re: Internet Rubbish

I don't know that I would call that "broadband" :( Using the same app I measured the DL/UL speeds on my supposed 6mbs cable connection from Maryland, USA to Suva, Fiji (7801.33 miles) and got: This is definitely an issue with the ISP and they should fix it. Is there an "expected"...

Re: How cheap is too cheap? Gigabyte Z68 for $130

This is my understanding: The GMA 3000 kills both AMD and Nvidia in specific media functions (Encoding, Transcoding, BD playback). Virtu allows you to point specific apps at either the GMA 2000/3000 or the discrete graphics. There are two modes: i-mode (plugged into the onboard vid outs) - If a medi...

Re: D975XBX2 and CORE 2 QUAD Q9400 compatibility

Agree with Major_A, if the Q9400 is cheap and you are only looking for a minor speed boost, as long as it is overclockable. I don't think you can find them retail anymore as they are discontinued. That said for $350 - $400 you could build a barebones Core i5 2500k system with 4GB RAM that should be ...

Re: Ga ex58 ud3r missing ram

What BIOS version do you have? Looking here http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2989#bios the F11 is the latest BIOS that also contains memory compatibility fixes (there have been three updates to fix memory compatibility issues). May or may not help, this is an odd one I must adm...
