Re: Am I crazy?!?
That is just excessive wear on your harddrive, the only time the gutman method is even close to necessary is if you are about to sell a computer that had sensitive info on it. That and for nasty viruses. It wouldn't hurt to do it one time. I mean you wouldn't sell a warn out hard drive because you ...

Re: Am I crazy?!?
If you're going to format and you have plenty of time, you might want to try formatting using the Gutmann method... And then every other time you format the hard drive use the 3-pass 0's.

Re: Am I crazy?!?
Not so much my recommendation since I got the theory from researching docs and looking up what other people had to say about it on other tech forums, but formatting 3x will clear the hard drive with good measure. Other types of formatting follow a similar path as they do certain writing patterns mul...

Re: Am I crazy?!?
It could very well be your CPU. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/246887-28-athlon-4000-intel-e2140 Someone mentions that the E2140 is better if you know how to overclock. But the bottom line is your last processor is better. Hot Hardware got it to 2.9, but other than that, they mentioned something ...

Re: Velociraptor vs SSD
303euros minus 130 euros is 170 euros, not 70. Could easily be a typo, although he never confirmed it! Like you said the SSD rule, just wait for the intel one to come out and say good buy to those slow hard drives of the past. From the looks of it, SSD may be better, but surely not in capacity. The...

I'm sorry, but John is not the top gamer in the world... At one point in time he was one of the best in the games. He got to where he was because he could afford to go to LANs. Many kids are good, but can't get sponsored or have the money to travel. He is the best marketed and made a ton of money f...

Re: GTX 280 issue
I don't care for the splitters provided for the graphics card and I believe It's best to use the power connector(s) from the PSU to power it up. Also, the motherboard or PSU could be faulty. That particular PSU may not be strong enough to power the 280 or the motherboard could be having problems get...

Re: Sata II with ATA100?
Does rpm speeds on the hard drive make a difference on the HD Tune benchmarks? Because I have a sata150 WD 10K RPM 74GB and a 2x Raptor sata150s RAID 0 and I got some pretty nice burst speeds. Both were around 120MB. I'm just wondering because if you have a sata2 drive, I'd figured the MB transfer w...

He might be referring to the order in which the drives should be installed back. But don't worry, as long as you don't delete the array, your data is safe.stSpringer2003 wrote:So are you saying, one can never remove a raid 0 and then bring it back?martini161 wrote:if its raid one, it will work. if its raid 0, it will not

Re: Raid unmount and remount
Removing the hard drives shouldn't be a problem. The array is stored on the Hard Drives so technically that array is portable to any other system with the same chipset. I'm not sure if it's necessary, but make sure the hard drives are placed back into the system in their original order.

Re: 9800 GX2 leads to no booting
It's hard to say without all the specs. You could have a beefy cpu or memory and a billion fans sucking up juice. IMO, That PSU is sort of low in wattage for having a (9800/8800?) GX2. But try these simple steps for now. 1) Make sure everything that requires power is connected to the power supply. R...

Re: Not sure which way to go
yea just remember that the longer you wait, the better graphics card you can get for your money. The 55nm revisions will come out soon, then not long after that nvidia will announce a GTX 300 series, and history repeats itself. waiting is better, yet we want to get things as soon as possible, its h...

Re: question/assumption on gtx 280
Yes, but I'm not sure if this card is the reason why they dropped the prices on the other 200 series cards. If it is, the 280+ better beat ATI's 4870X2 by a long shot.aircommando13 wrote:so are they gonna call it a GTX 280+? Or will they replace it all together?

Re: question/assumption on gtx 280
If you can, wait til the end of August for the 280+ which will have a 55nm processor. I'm not sure if it will be much faster than the original, even with it being overclocked, but it will most likely have better temps.
