Re: q6600 temperature readings on Bad Axe 2
I'm using the Intel D975XBX2. I found this on Intel's site: Some Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad processor-based Intel Desktop Boards are configured to support thermal control circuit (TCC). When Intel Desktop Control Center is used with these boards, the label for the processor temperature is CPU TCC. The ...

q6600 temperature readings on Bad Axe 2
With the recent price dip on the Q6600, I took the plunge and bought one. I finished swapping it in a few hours ago. My issue is that all of the utilities I use to check the CPU temp return a negative number. Utilities that read the core temps seem reasonable. As I type this, I'm running 4 copies of...

Re: D975XBX2 loses memory timings
The CPU is an E6400 modestly overclocked to 2.58 (8 x 323). Four gigs of PC2-6400 memory set to 533 MHz. Reference freq is set to "default" which I believe is 266. CPU volts are default (which lets me use speedstep); memory is 2.1, FSB is 1.275, MCH is 1.525. When I first started playing w...

D975XBX2 loses memory timings
Every few months, my D975XBX2 system "forgets" its memory timings and falls back to 5-5-5-18 at 800MHz. This is a problem because my system won't boot with the memory at 800, and I need to go into the BIOS and set the timings back to my settings. When this first happened, I wasted time dia...

Could it be the hdd?
Have you tried booting from CD? Every time I've encountered the missing ntldr message, it's been the disk itself. I suggest this as a bootable cd if you don't already have a favorite: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/.

VMware?
I don't know if the real hardware will work or not, but have you considered vmware? Vmware server is now available for free. There's also Virtualpc, but I have no experience with it. I believe there's a free version of it as well.

975xbx2 zone temperatures?
Just a curiosity question, but what sorts of temperatures are folks seeing for "zone 1" and "zone 2" on the bx2? It's 80F here in my room, I'm surfing the web and not much else and I'm seeing:
CPU: 41.5
Zone 1: 43.8
Zone 2: 45
CPU: 41.5
Zone 1: 43.8
Zone 2: 45

D975XBX2 eSata bracket
I just noticed that the owner's manual for the bx2 says that an esata bracket is included. I didn't get one. Did anyone else?

Stoopid OverKlok!
My spelling isn't really that bad! Anyway. the C2D overclock is gone again! I give up. Clearly this system wants to run at a normal clock rate.

Seems okay
It seems okay now. I ran a number of tests after the first overclock: orthos for 4 hours, memtest86+ overnight, cpuburn (x2) for several hours. I'm mainly running Gentoo on this box. So it gets a pretty good workout. I've transcoded hours of video and it hasn't hiccuped once until that one time. Whe...

Back in business
Yesterday, I gave it another go. Bumping the CPU voltage one more click did the trick. Overclocked again, and I powered it off overnight and it fired right back up again this afternoon. The specifics: BIOS version 2692 Room temp is 26C, CPU at idle is 40C (heatsink fan is poking along at a nice quit...

Successful overclock fails after a month
Something interesting happened yesterday. I was happily hacking along on my overclocked Bad Axe 2 when the keyboard stopped responding. That had never happened before. The mouse still moved the pointer, but nothing else worked. I bounced over to another system and tried to ping the Bad Axe -- no res...

Perhaps it's a DNS problem? What does your resolv.conf file look like? Are you using the same name servers as when you're running Windows? Do a few nslookup commands and see if that might be the issue. How do ping times compare between the two OSes? How do speed tests compare between the two OSes, e...

Exhaust fan tuning
I took the exhaust fan off "auto" and adjusted its speed with the slider in IDCC. Cranking it up just a little bit -- it's still barely audible, reduced the idle temps to 41-42C in IDU.

Bad Axe 2 successful overclock with E6400
After quite some time since my last attempt, I decided to have another go at overclocking. My system is an Intel D975XBX2 ("Bad Axe 2") with an E6400 processor and 2 gig of Corsair DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance memory. CPU HSF is a Zalman CNPS9500AT with Artic Silver Ceramique. I f...

2333 worked for you?
Just to be clear, 2333 worked for you? You successfully overclocked and cold boot worked? If so, what settings did you end up using?
Thanks.
Thanks.
