Re: WHICH ONE TO GO FOR???

+1 for the X2 555. The lack of L3 Cache hurts the X4 620 and it's siblings. +2, even the 550 would be a great choice, save a little coin and take advantage of it being a Black Edition, unlocking cores isn't a 100% guarantee but I've already unlocked a few and each time they unlocked to a stable qua...

Re: what's a good hard drive for running an OS on?

I'm not quite sure what you're concerned about here, but I have had great luck with the Western Digital Black series drives and Seagates 7200.12 drives as well. Just pick the capacity you want and read the reviews before you buy. I'd take a drive with 32 MB cache over 16 MB as you can find similarly...

Ooooh, I just convinced one of my customers to get the NH-D14 at work today and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit jealous! Consider me in!

Re: Swapping Processors

Flashing the BIOS these days is usually a pain-free process. You go to your motherboard manufacturers website and look up your specific model, then navigate to their downloads section - the latest BIOS should be there with instructions for your specific brand. Is this PC a custom build or was it pre...

Google Phone: Nexus One / T-Mobile?

Well my faithful if not bulletproof, three year old Motorola SLVR L7 is going to be retired within the next few days/weeks. My boss has a Droid, and my coworkers either have Blackberries or G1s. Having seen the Nokia N9000 up close and seeing all it could do that my phone couldn't do, I decided that...

Re: Apple Launches iPad

We talked about it at work today, and the general consensus is that this product will fade away quietly after a year or so. It does nothing new, is NOT revolutionary, and to be completely honest it just looks like a giant prop iPhone... very deterring. Also the people who are most likely to buy one ...

Re: Would like some truth why people are not folding@home

Our main source of income (my dad) walked out on our family last year, is unemployed, and TBH the only reason why I splurged on a F@H war was because I threw caution to the wind. I'm still putting out a few PPD but not like before. As much as I love the community here, I literally can't afford to fo...

Re: Which Quad upgrade?? On 775

Having owned this board previously, I recommend just buying the best clocked CPU you can and go for a *very* mild overclock. It's a great board for dual-cores but its chipset is known to run a bit too hot for quads. Anyway you could get a Q6600 @ 2.4 and push to maybe 2.75 before your temperatures w...

Re: Gigabyte v Asus ???

I've owned great performing boards from both companies! I prefer ASUS only because of their BIOS options, but I'm running a Gigabyte-based system right now and they're a great choice, make sure you invest in a decent offering from either company and keep it and its CPU well cooled to ensure the best...
