Thanks for the details. I don't have any inside info on what driver pakcage is current. I just had noted that the driver package version shown in the Release Notes linked in the AMD knowledgebase article dated May 11 at http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&...

Enjoyed the review. Will you update the article and its benchmarks after drivers are updated? Certainly not every driver update though; you wouldn't have time for anything else in life if you re-tested after every driver update. http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=know...

In the mid-90's I paid a couple hundred dollars for an Intel SatisFAXtion 200 modem. It also was a computer on a card; an 8088-family processor took care of communications chores. I could play Doom and receive faxes with nary a hiccup running DOS 5. Offloading communications is cool. But at the time...

Sirius Likes: 1. the variety of music and spoken word shows Sirius dislikes: 1. poor reception at my locations in Atlanta and New Orleans 2. music at 96 kbps just doesn't sound that good to me I dropped Sirius and now listen to local High Definition FM broadcasts and podcasts via MP3 player using a ...

What market niche does everyone think the 8950 is aimed at? It has fewer shaders than the 8900gtx. SLI on one card saves space but at this price point I would imagine that a buyer can easily afford a SLI motherboard. I guess one could SLI two 8950's for quad processing but what is the application? C...

If you can spend $400, I would get the XXX 640MB GTS from XFX. Or wait until April to see the new ATI and Nvidia cards talked about in some fo the other threads here.

Question: What was the divider and/or memory frequency when the DDR2-666 modules were used with the AM2 4800+? Do I understand the article correctly that the memory dividers are whole numbers? The DDR2-800 operated with a memory divider of 6. 2400/6=400 Was the DDR2-666 underclocked with a divider o...

RickyG512, Correct. And sometimes a 512MB model will be slower than a 256MB model when less than 265MB video memory is in use because the memory clock on the 512MB is set lower than the 256MB version. Sometimes manufactureres don't post the memory clock on the box or on their web site so you have to...

InsolenceAndHeresy, Cool. I have not played games lately. Would you mind posting directions to post video ram utilization on some games? I started looking into video ram usage while helping out a friend choose an upgrade path for handling Vanguard. When you stand back and look at it, it's a bit nutt...

I enjoyed this review. I am referring friends that are interested in playing Vanguard to look at the Rainbow 6: Vegas Performance page since Vanguard is based on the somewhat similar but older Epic Unreal Engine 2.5. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/459/5/ Those results, especially at 1600x1200 w...

How to check how much Video RAM a game uses

I have been helping a friend choose a new video card. Cards these days come with 128, 256, 320, 512, 640 or 768 MB. If you also have been wondering how much memory on a card is enough memory, a couple of programs that run on Windows can help you figure that out. 1) RivaTuner 2) Video Memory Watcher ...

I have helped a friend tune his system to play Vanguard. Vanguard is based on Epic's Unreal Engine 2.5. Basically, some of the tweaks for Unreal Tournament 2004 will also help with Vanguard. I played EQ when it started in 1999. The gameplay reminds me of EQ. Sigil has a video out showing a Wyvern as...
