Are SATA optical drives faster than IDE one's?

And can I plug a front firewire on it? (cable from the case)

My CPU is a old pentium 4 1.7 Ghz so I need to change my motherboard

When I speak about the P5b its the deluxe version right.

I have to agree this motherboard seems REALLY cool but I find it too expensive :S
