I think I've found the answer to my own question. The AMD on-die memory controller round's up any .5 value. For example: 9.5 x 270MHz = 2565MHz to find the "Real HTT" you need to divide result by the next highest multipler. SO: 2565 / 10 = 256 and 270 - 256 = 14MHz this is the difference? ...

formula for calculating 1/2 mulitpliers

Hi all, I'm running some tests and due to my unfamiliarity with the A64 internal memory controller I ran a series of benchmarks on the 9.5x270FSB. The benchmarks came out pretty good, however I udnerstand their not "valid" due to the on-die MCH's inability to work with .5 values. Does anyo...

Just tried the chip in a friends system, it's dead. And so am I. Hey Audiophile couldn't help notice your username, I was once deep into the hobby (as you know it's almost impossible to simply dabble) My last system was built around a sweet pair of of Futterman Labs built prototype 250W (each) monob...

Static electricty and stupidity

Hi all, I've been trying to become participate here and become involved more and it's one thing after the next. Anyway about 6-days ago I was reinstalled my P5 550 from my Asus P5AD2-E Premium back into an Abit AA8 to finish up some testing. I was doing fine until I made one of the stupidest moves e...

There's one thing I remember when i first started building PC's (not that I'm saying your a NOOB (althought that shouldn't be an insult)) ANYHOO, I always re-check the standoff's to ensure there's not one left under the motherboard where there's NO corresponding mounting hole. Even if the stand-off ...

Sky Hawk update at [M]

I want to aplogize for the way my article read. While i tried to ensure the unit's failure to meet standards was at the forefront, my ignorance concerning the guidelines themselves became emeshed in a review which also may have been cobntrsued as an attack on Legit. it went in too many directions an...

You said you were confused? Do you mean by installing WinXP the drive should have been detected as 300GB? My Home Edition was pre SP2. It was originally read bythe BIOS as 300GB which is why I missed the MaxiBlast install issue. This is my first drive larger then 120GB so I've never encountered this...

MAXTOR 300GB DiamondMax Ultra 16

Hi All, Maxtor have sent me their SATA Ultra 16MB 7200RPM 300GB DiamondMax for review. This will essentially be my first real HDD review. I could really use some help on which benchmarks to run with this drive? First thing I did wrong was "failed to follow the instructions" (again) which r...

Thank you, I almost got the connector apart and I actually did disconnect the fan, but when the connector began giving me more problems I got nervous and popped it back in. I never really got it completely detached. Now I feel more comfortable re-trying it. Tonight I'm going to try and identify if m...

I wonder if I should pull apart the Thermaltake Pure Silent Power? I wouldn't want to insult SkyHawk, but Thermaltake may be considered slightly more established? I just got a SkyHawk 620 unit, I wonder if my model has the changes? I had a really hard time getting the thing open because the daughter...

Really great review NaTE, and great work guys. I had the feeling Dothan would best the A64, and it looks like Legit was first out of the gate to put the theory to a detailed test! But where does this leave Intel? Will they consider Dothan architecture as a Desktop model? In other words can I sell my...

Oh wait I'm not eligible...Doh

Holly crap, what a move! Goes to show nhow much I know. My God imagine taking every mobo out of the box, installing a CPU/HSF, HDD or Floppy etc. and flashing it? There must be another way right? Isn't there simply a device you can use to flash the CMOS without even dropping a CPU in the socket? I s...
