Re: 8800GTX vs. 8800GTX Superclocked

One thing to watch out for when you're considering SLI is power consumption requirements. Don't just plug in an extra card unless you've checked that your power supply can handle the added load. The benefit of single cards is that they usually consume less power than two separate cards. Also, don't ...

Re: Is my PSU dying?

I don't know how to directly test the PSU while your computer is loading it (which is the more important measurement) but if you short two of the connectors, you can at least get your PSU to power on. Then its just a task of contacting the measurement lead to each one of the pins and the ground lead...

Re: The infamous Dell sale for the MSI 8800GT

Yeah, the same thing happened to a friend of mine. He waited for two months before going out and buying an 8800GT from a quicker shipping retailer. Funny thing is, he got the card shipped from Dell recently so now he's trying to sell it back and recoup his cost (what a pain ](*,) )

Re: Mobo w/ 1600/1333/1066/800 FSB support

I don't know of any product that is currently being sold that fits that description. Seems like you'll have to make some compromises! If you're really rich, then having an SLI board is a good option but from my experience, the videocard refreshes happen so often that it might just be cheaper to just...

Re: 3870 X2 Vs 8800 GTS G92 SLI

I would have to echo what some others have said about the issue of pricing. In general, anytime you pit a higher priced product, in this case 8800GTS in SLI, against something that is much cheaper, the 3870X2, the higher priced product will win out because it was designed to win out. It's pretty rar...

Everyone's pretty much hit the nail on the head. My roommate's BadAxe2 is one of the most stable OC'ers I've seen and it retains most of the additional functionality (S3&S1 suspend options). The 680i is actually easier to overclock. The Asus one my brother uses took his E6400 to 3.5Ghz pretty ea...

I"ve used Avast before and found it to be a little too clunky. It took too long to startup (almost as bad as McAfee). Plus the tray icon was a bit annoying. I use AVG and am pretty satisfied. That being said, I have never gotten a virus so I cannot really say that one is better than the other i...

Also, Intel's dual cores are technically two dies on a single chip. So one die could have more voltage leak than the other one.

That is bordering on dangerously high. You might experience some thermal throttling if the laptop motherboard supports it. I would keep an external fan blowing on the intake or sucking on the exhaust to keep the notebook cool while you get a replacement fan.

Sorry bout the ATI not nVidia part (dunno what happened with my reading skills). Yeah, if you can get a good deal on that X1950XT, that would be preferable. If you can find the X1900XT around 230, that would be a decent deal too. X1950GT really should be below 200. I would just find some cheapish ca...

Are DX10 cards not yet released where you live? If they are, I'd recommend an 8800GTS which can be found for pretty affordable prices. Of course, if you can find a cheap X1950XT, go for it. Also, it's not really worth getting the X1950pro these days since the X1950GT is just a downclocked version of...
